• I put my 1yo in a Thule yepp maxi on the back of my flat bar Ridgeback hybrid, and found it really twitchy, didn't like all the weight on the back, can't put panniers on, no clearance for mudguards. So I went and bought a Rockhopper to build up as a child-carrying machine.
I've been riding the ridgeback a bit and have got used to it, fatter tyres feel less necessary than they were.
    Should I
    (A) build the rockhopper anyway, it'll be great with a front rack and basket and we can go places
    (B) not bother, the ridgeback is comfy and quick and got enough gearing, even if it hasn't got mudguards and can't take more than a smallish rucksack

  • Put a Hamax on the back of the Rockhopper and you’re good to go. 90s mtbs are nice and stiff laterally and have nice long stays at the back, so should feel way less twitchy 👍

Also, usual tips with rear seats to reduce twitchiness are to mount it as far forwards as you can and as low as you can get it.
