MG are definitely upping their electric game these days.

What sort of efficiency are you getting?
-
• #1580
I didn't look specifically this morning but got back with 79% after 60 miles which would allegedly be 4.6 miles per kWh which seems insane. It is warm and it was mostly 30-50mph but still.

Thats pretty decent going.
I'm getting between 4/5 kWh from my Model Y, whereas my boss who has an BMW IX is getting around 2.5 :o

I'm getting similar with the Model Y though I've switched to aftermarket wheel covers which definitely decrease efficiency slightly. Going to pop the OGs back on next week for a trip down to France.
BMW IX only gets the range it does, because it smashes in a 111 kWh which is mental.

Thanks!

Just found that if you press lock on the key fob when it's locked, it starts beeping the horn and flashing the lights.
Presumably to help locate it in a car park.
Can't imagine I'll be needing that too often, given the colourway...

No one light foots a rental. ;)
As a weird comparison. I had to drive my Chevy van the day after I got back. Even that, as an agricultural 90s holdover is quieter inside and has better steering feel.
Conventional car accoutrements, handling and a Tesla power train would be properly tempting for me.

More than half of the allegations its researchers documented in 2022 are linked to just five companies, including Glencore.
This is one of the really telling stats.
It's one thing being at the top of a list, but when the bulk of issues sit with a handful that demonstrates the negative impact you're having.

Chrysler and Volkswagen as well, according to Reuters. I’m in no way trying to make Tesla look like the good guys here, but they probably dwarf Tesla in comparison.

As much as I hate Musk the idea that Tesla is in any sort of position to exert influence is laughable. Their value is massively inflated, they make a small percentage of the electric vehicles out their and they are completely at the mercy of the companies that control mining, it's not like they have any alternative, their whole business is dependent on the minerals.
The only way any of it would change would at the nation level but they'll all turn a blind eye.

Gearing up to lease a car (a "MYLR" as the youngsters say) for the next 2 years (1 year upfront). Financing wise I think this is the better option for my personal LTD, but this is the first time I've even considered it. I've asked the accountant but if you have any input or recommendations I'll gladly take them.

I’ve registered for Electroverse by Octopus Energy. Gives you a smart card so you can access loads of chargers Europewide.
Also been able to charge surprisingly cheap, 150-200kw non Tesla chargers for 25p / kw.
Uses your Octopus energy credit balance too.

Me too, my first EV-item (the electroverse card). I still don't have a car (accountant is slow) nor a charge point (installers are busy) though...
Turns out we have a looped connection to next door, thin tails into the consumer unit (luckily just on the other side of the wall...), lacking mains cutoff switch, and an unknown value (60A if lucky) fuse. Called National Grid to get things started (at least to get in the 'queue' to get the conn 'unlooped') but the form they sent me is extra leccy-technical so it'll have to wait for the installers to fill out.
In the meantime I found out both bonding wires to the water pipes are flapping in the wind, one of them even missing the bonding clamp. £2 fix from B&Q.

Is it possible to buy a decent electric car second hand for 30k that can do longer journeys?
Hyundai ioniq?

What’s a longer journey?

• #1596
Well Lyon to uk/Pyrenees.
For my parents. Would be a 1 day or 2 day depending if mum or day driving. Stopping is fine. More comfort/mortowary driving characteristics. They have Volvo v40 now, it died and they're looking at a petrol X1. So I need a good electric car to suggest and I think buying a expensive combustion car is somewhat silly right now, with the speed things are moving. -

A new MG4 EV would be great if they don’t mind stopping / charging. The long range one can do 200 of pure motorway miles in one go.
SE long range is £29k new without any dealer incentives/ discounts.
Wife has a trophy long range (couple more options) and it’s excellent.

Wow well priced
Thanks

Agree the MG4 has got to be the best bet for under 30k.
Looks like you can get a used Hyundai Kona 64kv for under £20. With patience and warm weather on your side you could get close to 300 miles from a charge. My experience was that charging was on the slow side though, and they’re very small cars inside (so two adults, one kid and a couple of bikes was a struggle)

Dealing with the classic old people range anxiety.
Isn't Tesla renound for "performance" oriented suspension?
