Yeah it was a big boy collector’s GS, platinum case etc.
I think it would do them no harm to have a VFA line of “special” versions of some of their existing watches, but then in a way it’s probably worth more to them to use it to market LEs to the wealthier and more dedicated collectors who actually give a crap.
Also one minute per month is not necessarily a huge selling point now when a) spring drive exists and b) every single watch Rolex makes meets that standard.
It's probably just a matter of time, although GS have tended towards doing stuff that's inspired by their classic designs rather than out-and-out reissues, at least since the trio of 55th anniversary reissues (SBGW047, SBGR095, SBGV009). Those were 10 years ago and they haven't done a proper/accurate 44GS reissue since.
They do occasionally still roll out the VFA moniker for special occasions, eg the SBGH265 from 2018. Adjusted to -1/+3 s/d.
