Ah that looks pretty good actually, thanks!

A long time ago we lived in an apartment where tiles like this sometimes just fell down.
Also like the I will need that beautiful lamp and a chair to look at the catastrophy approach.

I wish these would have just fallen down. gonna power through and try to finish last 3 rooms tomorrow. then I can spend friday knocking the adhesive as flat as possible while I wait for the first lot of plasterboard to arrive.
speaking of, I fully expect them to arrive with a big lorry and then just dump it on the driveway and fuck off. when taking bulky deliveries should I be doing anything to make sure stuff is protected from damage from the floor when it arrives? it's 20 sheets of 2.4x1.2m and will be going straight out back to the empty summerhouse where it wont be in the way all the time and I have plenty of room to cut and make a mess.

I’ve used these (maybe different length) to put up twin slot book shelves on insulated plasterboard. Get the setting tool.

Annoyingly there’s no cavity, the board is laid on top of a single skin brick wall (conservatory). I’ve picked up something similar to Airheads suggestion, will report back

If it’s just you carrying them put them somewhere so that you don’t have to move them far or several times before cutting/fitting.

yeah the name is misleading but from my experience (and I seemed to remember Fischer’s own specs) they don’t need a cavity, the metal ‘umbrella’ still expands in the foam insulation and pulls tight behind the plasterboard. Tho I had 100mm and studs in front of a brick wall.

Was at my local tops tiles and noticed they have a whole big tray of broken tiles and samples - a couple of decent size bits of porcelain.
Too far for you but there's one over near cally road I think and must be others around your way.

Might be worth laying down a few lengths of timber if you've got any?
Also a quick note to make sure you store them flat - I had a few sheets leaned up against the wall for a while and they bowed like crazy.

Cheers for all the suggestions. Pizza oven has pretty thin legs which is why I didn't want slats but I guess something with bigger slats and smaller slats may do the job. Does involve more cutting/sanding/varnishing time than just a big chunk though.
I had a bit of a look at FB marketplace and Gumtree but it's a bit of a faff with loads of free or cheap ones just being adverts for companies. Will keep half an eye out to see what comes up though.
It's getting to the point where cost/time is edging me towards just buying a new table though which is what I was trying to avoid.

was in a pretty good mood working on the polystyrene ceiling tiles this morning as the adhesive used in this room was pissweak and I could pull the tiles down whole 9/10 times but then this was waiting underneath for me last behind the last 4 ceiling tiles...
have already had the source of the damp sorted up in the roof a couple of days ago and we had a damp guy coming to inspect the place and check a couple of spots already on saturday already booked in but ffs look at it.
this was directly above where prev. owners would lay their heads when asleep in bed just obscured by a thin layer of crappy polystyrene.

New screws seems to have sorted it!
It was quite satisfying, impact-driving them in, until my back had enough.
I think most of the problem was caused by the small screws someone had used to resecure the boards after some work had been done. Swapping those fixed the noise, but for good measure I went round and put a screw in at every nail point.

That mould/damp is scary. What's the plan for re-smoothng/sealing the ceiling? Plasterboard? I fear ceilings are too low already to cover up with plasterboard
-
• #40916
plan is to overboard, the new plasterboard will replace the polystyrene tiles that were already eating up that much space so it wont feel any different to "before" and it doesn't feel oppressively low and hopefully covering it all up leaves a lasting useable surface so we never have to deal with this shit again any time soon.
I'll see what the damp man says about that big spot. the rest of the house there's the odd small patch here and there but given how little maintenance seems to have been done to the place it's not bad enough that some anti mould treatment followed by a decent cover of anti mould paint and then some waterproof primer on top shouldn't be able to keep it at bay hopefully.

I'd be tempted to remove the black bits and see what is above to eliminate any potential sources of damp or see if it's historical, or a ventilation problem / cold bridging.
You're putting up plasterboard in any case, so an extra bit is not much more work.
Paint can mitigate the symptoms, but if the cause is still there, it will come back eventually.

^we overboarded one room and added a suspended ceiling in another (to get around new steels and the bulkhead from the stairs that jutted out) - in hindsight i'd have just taken both rooms back to the joists, and dealt with a couple of sticky-outy bits to retain the maximum height.

What do people put their filler in?
I need to even out a wall which I'm going to have to do a few sessions on due to time constraints.
So wondered what sort of receptacle folks normally use.

I use a Plasterers bowl though mines disappeared and I used a takeaway container last time.
For the massive damp patch I'd remove that in case of any spores and hide the hole with the overboarding

Good stuff. Those old screws are wood screws. You need the thread-free bit with chipboard or the threads will just cut the fibres and make the hole too big again, and it creaks.

Washing machine tab plastic boxes
That's what I used for the outside porch. Thanks for reminding me!
Would this do it?
