plan is to overboard, the new plasterboard will replace the polystyrene tiles that were already eating up that much space so it wont feel any different to "before" and it doesn't feel oppressively low and hopefully covering it all up leaves a lasting useable surface so we never have to deal with this shit again any time soon.
I'll see what the damp man says about that big spot. the rest of the house there's the odd small patch here and there but given how little maintenance seems to have been done to the place it's not bad enough that some anti mould treatment followed by a decent cover of anti mould paint and then some waterproof primer on top shouldn't be able to keep it at bay hopefully.
