I’m in the sticks and it amazes me how many ‘new’ riders turn up with SPD-SL’s for club rides. They ride once a week and after every stop they are wobbling all over the place and taking forever to get up to speed cos they can’t clip in quickly. I blame the shops - should be advising (MTB) SPD’s
In town SPDs, MTB-style shoes and and dual-use pedals (so ordinary shoes if I want) is my thing. Always amusing to see some geezer hanging by one arm off the nearest bit of street furniture because he can't put a foot down.
