  • What pack you using and size?

Edit: I see a few pages back your bigger one which is 38L + space

I've got a 8 day trip coming up. Carros de foc through parc nacional d'Aigüestortes over to Aneto and then back through parc natural d'alt Pirineu, with time built in to go up anything that looks fun on the way. I was hoping to hit some refuge but they're busy so might be carrying more food. I'm thinking my 35L might be ok, just strap sleeping bag or tent to outside if not for start. Can resupply at midpoint. I need to do a test pack this weekend and see how it looks.

  • Got a course booked for next week! Hope to be autonomous not long after for some summer fun.

  • Yeah, its 45L but once the bear can is strapped in the inside capacity is 38l for everything other than food, and a 6L mesh pocket on the outside. My bear can was not that full so I easily could've taken a week's worth of food.

    Trip sounds fantastic. Very jealous.

  • Cool thanks. It should be okay then.

And yes I hope it will be awesome. If you're ever in pyrenees shout.

  • What sort of thing are you after? For a day's granite cragging you could do a lot worse than Clifton. Not a bad detour on the way up / down, too:

But if you mean REAL west coast / Highlands (and big adventure trad), I'd urge you to head for Carnmore:

  • Wow, that looks fun! What's the exposure like? Walking tracks precipitous?

  • The first but is Carros de Foc (Google it) then I made it up by asking friends and getting tracks off Wikiloc to get over to Aneto. There will be come scrambling at points and aneto has the glacier. But anything more than that and I'll divert or go around, no intention to carry a rope. It's mostly all new trails and passes to me (whole point of the trip) so not entirely sure what I'll find.

  • Thanks for the recommendations, both look spot on! I’m packing for adventure but I think my partner is more into an easy stroll from the car so we shall see. We’re gonna be based Inverness so Clifton will def be a stopover.

Also, looking at some of the topos is running 60m twin ropes the norm up there? Seeing a lot of damn long pitches. We have 50m twin and has never come up short so far.

All of Carnmore looks epic! Looks like there’s some real adventure to be found even in the lower grades.
We only have the Scottish Rock guidebook which is a bit of an overview, I’m sure there are far more in depth ones for each region. This is what’s covered, won’t have time for any islands this time sadly.
Looks like there’s more than enough to keep us amused for a few days. I’m not a particularly keen hiker so some of the 2-3 hr approaches are a little unappealing, well aware that’s not the right attitude though 😅

  • if it helps, here's what I needed for twenty days on the extremely demanding HRP, in your neck of the woods. incredible route, by the way. https://lighterpack.com/r/cyp5kh

  • Thanks that's helpful. Looks like the altaplex knows it better than me!
Shout if you're down this way again.
I've been up onto some of the HRP around mine, one day I'll venture out of Catalunya.

No insulated jacket? Otherwise looks what I had in mind, except I won't take piolet.

  • Aha! Yeah, will do.
Only stayed inside once or twice. Will never forget riding out a lightning storm in this tin can.

I'd rather have a warmer sleeping bag and rain pants over a down jacket - and never felt I should have brought one on this trip.

I used the piolet only once, but it saved me from definitely breaking both my legs...

  • There's a lot of those luxury cans about. Which ones that? Looks beautiful

  • Cinquantenari was another fave

  • Ah it is mont roig. Just up behind the house. I did want to ask if it was that one, but I know of a few others. Not been to it but around it.
    Amazing place.

    Thanks for the other one.

You passed Airoto right? Love that one.

  • Nice, enjoy!

  • Anyone know any particularly nice walking routes from/through Gryon in the swiss alps? Definitely nothing needing ropes or any particular skills, and we're looking at intermediate challenge at most as will be with an older mate who doesn't do much exercise. Would love a section of non-life-threatening ridge walk if possible....

  • Right, but c00ps asked for a day pack, not a pack for climbing/scrambling up walls, so I was going from the hiking perspective.

Missed this - yes, that was exactly what I was asking, ta. The used Atom was a bit too beaten up for the £££, so I didn't take it. Borrowing something else temporarily this weekend, then I will look around at some other suggestions here (and probably bite the bullet and go new, as I'll have it for years).

  • How about Tour de l’Argentine?https://www.alpesvaudoises.ch/en/tour/ET-TOUR-1392

You’ll be guaranteed a view of some climbers in the Miroir, there are some slightly tricky sections with chains, but my friends did it in the snow and were fine. The restaurant at Solalex is meant to be quite good too.

  • This looks great, thank you! Def on the list...

  • Daibaig. Does not disappoint.
When the ‘walk’ in is near vertical goat paths over shattered cliffs above a loch you’re in for a good day.
Did some easy routes, mostly just enjoyed the day out. Would be worth staying locally for 3-4 days to get to know the crags. Rock is tasty and infinitely grippy.
If anyone visits the con dome there’s a no9 offset nut stuck that I failed to retrieve. Could hang a car off it probably.

  • Anyone done the TMB? We're off in 10 days and I'm concerned my 4 year old Salomon boots are going to rub. Somehow the RH boot has stretched so my heel moves regardless of how tight the boot is.

Just done 36,000 steps/day for a week in my old Adidas Terrex and was super comfy, however I'm slightly concerned they won't be tough enough for the TMB?

    Any advice much appreciated.

  • Trail runners will absolutely be tough enough for the TMB. I've never done it, but I don't need to. The TMB is a well trodden trail without gnarly sections.

  • I've cycled it. I don't wear boots for anything, only trail runners. tmb path is so well beaten you could do it in comfy street shoes.
