I had some Adidas XC spikes that ripped like that. I think they were 2 seasons old, to be fair, and they had been through the mill a bit. I don't think I ever cleaned them, or if I did, it was only once or twice.
I binned them - didn't fancy running around a muddy field with spikes on one foot, and half a shoe on the other
