That's what I do, connect by twisting or those small plugs, small heatshrink over each cable, then big heatshrink.

If you have enough spare length, cut one wire slightly shorter so you stagger the joins. When you put the larger piece of heat shrink over the two joins you’ll end up with a little less of a lump in the wire.

Finally recalling my dynamo and having to extend the wire coming out of the front light after it was ripped from the hub. Was about to just add an additional length of wire and heatshrink over the connection but realised this might not work so well with the two bare wires next to each other. Will I need to heatshrink them individually then together to extend properly?
