What a nice thing to get for your dog! Would a box instead of a flat bed encourage him to be a better passenger?

I have thought about this, even wondered about somehow strapping his crate to the front, however, this would still allow a certain freedom of moment, and a sudden shift of 30kgs off centre one way or the other is a shock to the system! I bought a special full length mountain dog harness for him which has tether points right along the full length of his body, but found short of strapping him down so hard he can’t move, I’m still faced with the same problem. Pretty sure strapping him down so he’s immobile isn’t going to be much fun for him either.

Hmm, I was thinking some kind of small, open-top box that only allows room for sitting. But at 30kg, I see the issue.

wow! this looks sooo good!
you painted it glossy black?
huge tyres also!!! -
• #11608
Yeah, and the box would have to be sturdy enough and solidly fixed to the rack enough to be able to have the collar and harness fixings attached to it.
This guy is a bit of a unit 😂 -

This is a stock gloss black with a sparkle in it - it’s a bloody nice colour, reminds me of NJS paint, only not quite the same quality!

I quite often fantasize about getting a cargo bike to lug my dog around in. I think your experience is probably closer to what my reality would be! My dog is also around 30kg and although generally well behaved, I can imagine her lurching around unexpectedly if she sees another dog she wants to say hello to or just trying to jump off to chase a fox. In my fantasy a Bullitt seems like a better bet due to the lower centre of gravity but I wonder how much difference it would actually make.

I would say the bullet will be more stable as the weight is behind the wheel rather than on it, and the wheelbase is longer.
I’ve got a video I was filming with one hand on the bars while riding with Ted on the front through a really scenic bit of woodland that ends in ted spotting a squirrel. I’ll try and upload it. It summarises everything above! -

Riding one handed, in the woods, with a dog on the front is just asking for trouble tbh 😆

This is so good.
The tent thing in front doesn't look that practical? -
• #11622
It does not but it seems to work ok. I would not ride it in a thunderstorm but most of the rain we get here is more of the steady rain for days type not the tropical stuff (Austria but not the part with mountains) depending in how it works out might use this as a starting point for a custom bike tent in the future.

Yo hive mind.
I love my bullitt. I ride it pretty much every commute. 10km loop. 50% road/50% forest track up to the yard. I have a couple valleys in the Cotswolds to climb up, I have my work dog up front for the B-roads. As some of the OS know I've got some health conditions. I'm considering a bafang mid drive so that I can take some of the fatigue out of the last few commutes of the week and to make the bike more usually generally.
I've scrolled back and forth on the thread and noted some of the resources and what others have done. There's some really good stuff on here - as always!I'm wondering before I go ahead and buy whether there's anything anyone would advise/suggest I take into account, any good deals out there your already aware of, any considerations I should bare in mind - even if it's bait I'd be happy to hear them. Sometimes the most obvious things is what you overlook right.
I'm considering a BBS02. Power for the hills but generally I can keep it on low and just use it when I need to. This feels fairly standard for a cargo. I toyed with a 250w choice but I've got concerns about resell and under powering when moving up hill with weight. Wondering if general opinion is similar.
Cheers for any advice.

I have a Bafang and a madjax box and lug around 2 kids (12,6). It gets abused and used up and down south London inclines, flat roads.
The head unit and some other part crapped out on me after a year, I’ve gone back to the place I got it installed they did something (new head unit) it works.
I know dubkev has a similar set up but has had some problems. If you’ve got skills and time it’s no bother to install yourself. If you also have skills and time it’s probably easy to meddle with and keep on top of it.
