  • They are a bit annoying to set up but work well

  • Just be careful that the support of the dynamo is also the negative pole on most dynamos. You can connect it has such and run only the positive cable, or you connect positive and negative to the dynamo if the dynamo has both poles. Also there are left and right models.

A new HR traction is however one-third of a complete new wheel with dynamo (20€ vs 60€ in Germany)!

Also be careful with the reflective stripe on the side of the tire, dynamo should not run on it or it unglues.

  • I’ve been intrigued with these bottle dynamos for a while

  • in the German nerdiness category you also have Renak. A hub dynamo that you can uncouple when not in use.

  • I need to attach my IQ lamp to a front rack strut, but the Nitto Lamp Holder 6R s are sold out EVERYWHERE. Anyone spotted some in stock /seen another solution?

  • "a very satisfactory value" i love the copy style so much

edit - appreciate it is auto translated, but the result is perfect

  • Finally recalling my dynamo and having to extend the wire coming out of the front light after it was ripped from the hub. Was about to just add an additional length of wire and heatshrink over the connection but realised this might not work so well with the two bare wires next to each other. Will I need to heatshrink them individually then together to extend properly?

  • Image won't upload for some reason

  • That's what I do, connect by twisting or those small plugs, small heatshrink over each cable, then big heatshrink.

  • If you have enough spare length, cut one wire slightly shorter so you stagger the joins. When you put the larger piece of heat shrink over the two joins you’ll end up with a little less of a lump in the wire.

  • Nice, thanks

  • Oh that's clever, thanks!

  • I've used one of these extensively. It's currently fitted to our tandem. Happy to answer any questions.

@edscoble – I'll take another look at that info re rear lights in that guide. Sorry if it caused you a big headache!

  • a neat trick that people use is a brake arm as a support.

isnt this good enough if i just want to charge my phone as i go by?

  • Haven't bought from them myself but Tout Terrain is a well regarded company here in Germany! They're located only a couple of miles away from me. I'm pretty sure, their website and offerings are not a scam! Maybe ask them about the price and details first before damaging/tarnishing their reputation...

  • ^Julien1A is in Germany, going by the below. But yes Tout Terrain are very smart bikes, unlikely they’re scamming anybody.

A new HR traction is however one-third of a complete new wheel with dynamo (20€ vs 60€ in Germany)!

If you can get still get a dynamo wheel for €60 in Germany, this makes me realise: is it just us that are having to pay about double for bike stuff compared to 5yrs ago? Ohh that brexit dividend eh

  • They didn't say tout terrain were scamming anybody, they linked to a product sold by tout terrain and then said beware of other scam websites selling things too cheap.

  • Maybe I wrongly phrased, yes Tout-Terrain is well regarded here, and the product works well!

Except that "the plug" is not available on most website, and the one where it is available discount it to 90€, and this website sounds like a scam. Not even an "impressum"!

But yes product is real and great!

  • Well, bike stuff have exploded here too after Covid shortage! But yes that is available:
    Taylor Wheels

  • This version can only provide 500mA. Most USB charger are 1A, hence not sure your phone or GPS will charge at this power. But has a very small cache battery to avoid stopping charge in traffic light.

this version allows to go 1A to 1.5A for 20€ more.

But this has no a buffer battery! And it is recommended to have one (i.e. charge the buffer battery and then use it to charge the device).

"The plug" exist in several versions, with or without buffer battery.

    Alternatively

AXA used to have the "AXA Luxx 70 Plus Steady Auto 939876" which had an integrated USB charger, but not produced any more. Maybe you can source it somewhere.

Same for the Busch & Müller Lumotec IQ2 Luxos U

Spanninga nomad...only available here apparently! Only 500mA, but ok to charge a buffer battery and 40 lux which is just ok... but 40€

  • I guess I misunderstood what you were saying, sorry for the confusion.

You're right, the website you linked to ^ definitively looks fake. I've seen a couple of those using the same website design and similar addresses (See Contact us at the bottom) pop up in recent times.

  • Indeed, I mounted one some weeks ago.

Next I will try/use is this Line Small light for another bike. Can the front light IQ-XS be recommended?
