  • For down you could try Triple Zero, or Valandre.

  • Thanks neither have it

  • You can customise it with Cumulus, get it with 900 fp.

  • Ah I'm an idiot. Thanks for pointing that out. Will look.

It's a shame they don't have 950 or 1000. I know ther won't be much in it, but there will be something and I will keep this bag for 10 years hard use so I'd like the best and lightest system weight for warmth.

I actually would quite like to make my own (well my wife) then I can really do exactly what I want. I might keep my eye out for a second hand bag with quality down and reuse it.

  • Feel like Cumulus is going to be the answer..

Need a 3 season bag. Previously had an Alpkit Pipedream 400 (400g of 750 fill). Found it cold at times (around freezing) while using a sleeping pad with a 0.7 R-value. Now using a pad with a 4.2 R-Value but still think a higher fill power is needed.

Have some aspiration trips in mind but willing to sleep in a jacket to eek out the range for those. One of those being Tian Shan/Kyrgyzstan, suspect some in this thread have real word experience camping there... or more like bivvy experience! :)

Cumulus Panyam 450 - £336-ish, need to important and deal with brexit.

    Weight: 810g
    Fill: 850 (450g)

    Feathered Friends Swallow YF 20 - £427
    https://featheredfriends.com/collections/three-season-down-sleeping-bags/products/feathered-friends-swallow-yf-20-30-down-sleeping-bag
    Weight: 838g
    Fill: 900+ (476)

Western Mountaineering UltraLite Sleeping Bag - £540
    https://www.westernmountaineering.com/sleeping-bags/extremelite-series/ultralite/
    Weigtht: 838g
    Fill: 850+ (455g)

The Western Mountaineering is a real stretch and gets into phd minim 400 money. It is probably between Cumulus and Feathered Friends or something else?

  • FF will be warmest. But culums seems good value.

Don't wear a coat in your bag, you heat needs to be in the bag not the coat. Throw the coat over the top.

Look second hand? If your not in a rush something will come up.

Also consider the use of a wind proof material on bag outer if sleeping out.

I'm somewhat giving up on bags, as a side sleeper. Do you sleep on your back? I wish I could.

  • I have a spare Cumulus quilt for sale. 850 down.
Standard sizing, good down to 0º with some thermals on.
A lot cheaper than anything else you're looking at. Interested?

  • It's either a 250 or a 350. Nice green colour.
Only selling as I have 4 sleeping bags which is one too many.

  • Yeah too much for me then, thanks !

If you see a nice quilt for sale anywhere let me know, I don't frequent anywhere but here.

  • Also a side sleeper, just got a Rapide SL. Might be a bit weighty for you but the hours of (Youtube) research seemed to have it right in the affordability/comfort zone for me.

I use all my inflatable mats on a multimat superlite for puncture protection, after losing three in a row to punctures.

  • Thanks. I ordered the Nemo tenor which looks the same. This Matt will be for trips rather than racing, so I'm happy to carry more weight for good sleep.

  • Any tips for finding holes in my exped synmat ul? Found two holes but it is still going down over a few hours. Have tried spraying it with water and submersing parts of it (wasn't going to do this but it is useless anyway unless the hole gets found, so thought why not).

  • Over inflate it and find a swimming pool.

If that’s not an option try sitting on it and going over the whole thing with a soapy sponge, stretch and squeeze the fabric in different directions as you go. It’s a pain but if you inspect it in small sections you should find the holes.

Small splits in the side seams are pretty much only discoverable if you submerge the pad.

  • Xtremtextil do 850 down.

  • No stock.

I think the cheapest and best will be to buy a used 1000 down jacket. Just wait for a XXL one to come up for sale.

They didn't teach me that in the scouts, thanks! :)
Not in a rush but will be able to get some FF from the US in late summer. Will keep a lookout for 2nd hand US stuff too.

Side sleep at home but think a bag forces me onto my back, quilts are tempting but worry about staying warm, think they'd be a great 1-2 season option.
I did recently get a Nemo Tensor pad which has helped greatly with sleep.

Going to stick with a bag for the cold end of the spectrum, thanks!

  • I have a spare Cumulus quilt for sale.

I might be interested. Send me some info in the DMs?

    Cheers

  • Not sure, it was a fair whack though. Maybe a Nemo or big Agnes pillow. She carries it though though 🤷

  • really enjoyed my Exped mat, as an ex-Neo Air user.
any of their mats marked "LW" are long and wide, thus extra comfy for a small weight penalty.
me, I'm already happy on the small ultralight size, as a front sleeper in quilts.

  • Hey @platypus I'd might be interested in the quilt, mind if I DM you?

  • got one other person interested, will let you know if no sale

  • ok cheers
