Sadly I didn't get to see that part on my brief stay, but I will be back for sure. I did end up cycling through Montlouis sur Loire, which looked pretty good and isn't too far from Tours. But I do need to check out the north bank places like Vouvray, Rochecorbon, Noizay, Pocé sur Cisse, etc. - got similar advice from a few people I met in Amboise, so that bit is next on the agenda.

Great! Starting from Rochecorbon, wandering through the vineyards to Vouvray, then going to Reugny passing by Vallée de Cousse, coming back to Vernou and heading to Noizay then Pocé you can find very calm places throughout the countryside, plenty of small roads to avoid big départementales roads. Glad you enjoyed the place :)
Edit: also some almost hidden castles, some rivers, beautiful big properties, etc.
very cool! Amboise is a very beautiful place. On my side I'm living closer to Tours, but I can advice you to wander in the countryside on the opposite side of the Loire to Amboise: Noizay, Reugny, and the small roads that cross wineyards between them are very nice
