Yeah, but then he would have to commute back to the Camden/Westmnster area.
-
• #1528
And you'd have to go to Milton Keynes
Which nobody wants -

Last time I was in MK I was skateboarding the bus station in 1990-91, driving there in the last car I owned.

My ID3 went in for 12v battery recall and new software downloaded.
Vw said there’s only one teccy that can do it and he/ she needs to be present during the TEN hours it takes .. explains the 5 month wait .
They had the car a week after promising 2 days , I’d booked a courtesy car which they told me when I arrived it would cost £25 ( I could have taken the Brompton or spare car follow me … I said I wasn’t told when I booked it , they would waive the fee if I accepted a £1000 excess .
I walked home with my wife .
They did deliver a polo for a few days which helped , they could see I was a tad miffed .
When the new software was in ,it diagnosed an iffy cell so they took all the batteries out and replaced a cell .
Under warranty ,thank goodness because the bill to VW is enormous, really enormous…the car was running fine btw .
Vw must be taking a hit if this happens often -

The hit to VW must be very very big indeed; we were offered 125 complete ID battery packs from a big Dutch dealerships company that were swapped out because of bad cells. We’re seriously considering it because the price per kWh is very sharp and we know how to test the modules and reject the duff ones.
The ID modules are very nice to convert with because of their size and they are available in both 8s3p and 12s2p. Which means we can use them in many different setups. 54kWh, 400V (with fast charging), 180kW (240bhp), 360Nm midsize classic anyone? -

Just out of interest and not in any way actually in this market, but what kind of money are we taking about to convert my 1977 MGB roadster to EV?
-
• #1533
Pretty sure €30k is the most common number that get banded about in the thread.
-
• #1534
My worry is with a recall bill this size ( no payment needed due to warranty ) what will happen to resale if it became known you may have a huge bill on the way ?
They are sold with a ‘not many moving parts , what could possibly go wrong ‘ kinda vibe -
• #1535
that get banded about in the thread.
There's a thread?

VW warranty and the garages seem really shit too, I had a 1 day job take 3 because they didnt know it was still there.

Hilarious

Totally depends on specs. A Hyper9 motor using original transmission and a 40ish kWh battery pack would come in the 30ish k incl VAT for all the parts no labor. A Zonic180 with reduction gearbox (1 speed) and CCS would be closer to 50k.
Edit: aircon, power steering, extra fancy dials ad on of course

I’ll try and trawl through this thread in a bit, but just thinking about switching from my petrol car to an EV, as I just drive around a 5-mile area in SE LDN.
What basics do I need to consider, other than charging point/cost? Is it roughly the same price as petrol?
I think I can sell my car for £6k; would I be happy with a 2015 Leaf for a similar amount? Is depreciation massive if I upgrade in the next few years? Etc.
Any tips appreciated! -

Charging mainly! Can you charge at home?
-
• #1542
charging in public charge points is a bit of a pita unless there is one right outside your house and it sort of adds to your general mental load. Its also fairly expensive. if I couldn't have home charging I wouldn't bother
-
• #1543
I can charge it at work which is a 20 min walk away, but would need to sort something out at home really.
-
• #1544
Not to be too much of a stereotype, but if you do really only drive around a 5 mile area then would a bike/cargo bike suit?
-
• #1545
E bikes are perfect for this distance, and for SE London hills
-
• #1546
Ha yeah I know, I wish I could do the cargo bike. Not quite doable for several reasons. I’ve had discussions with my partner about getting rid of the car but we’ve come to this conclusion now.

I would agree with all these points, the best thing about having an EV is the ease of charging at home and only needing to charge every now and then in the wild. I am currently the otherway round and rely on chargers most days of the week and it is a real grind!
Edit: if all you are doing is 10 - 15 miles a day a 2015 leaf will do you fine, as fore depreciation, I know newer leaf's have had their value drop drastically over the last few months but the older ones haven't been hit too hard it seems, I don't think it would be too much of an issue unless battery health takes a tumble. -
• #1548
The battery life on a 2015 Leaf?
-
• #1549
Yeah that seems to be the main thing. I’m going to speak to my work about this SalSac leasing scheme.
Thanks for all the help! -

My Nissan Leaf is on the NHS scheme and with servicing, tyres, insurance and breakdown is still way less than just depreciation on a new one bought outright.
Milton Keynes - You can park for free with an EV, just need to apply for a green parking permit.
