• I'm selling my RX4+ brakes. Wonderful as they are when they're set up just so, I'm fed up of having to tinker to keep them happy. They were bought new in Summer 2021 and spent about 18 months on a bike before I moved over to some Dura Ace ones.

They come with flatmount adaptors which will allow them to be used with 140mm/160mm rotors front and rear. I'll leave the hoses on, which are a Shimano BH90 with 35cm length on the front and a Shimano BH59 with 135cm length on the rear. They have the blue pads installed and have plenty of meat left, I'll also throw in the red pads, two set of bleed blocks and a Hope mineral oil syringe.

As you will see from the pictures, the front mount has been filed down as the brake originally did not sit flush against my fork and I couldn't find anyone locally willing to face it as it was carbon. The mounts come separately to the calipers on the RX4 so this can be replaced with a new one for about £10 if needed.

I'm Looking for £100 all in, collection from Liverpool Street or Reading, or I can post at cost.

  • I’ve been intrigued by these since they first came out.
Why/what did you have to keep fiddling with them?

  • They run closer to the pads, so it makes getting them set up without rub a right pain in the hole. But it’s not impossible.

Running them with Hope rotors makes life slightly easier, hope 160 cl rotors are narrower than sram/shimano etc so it gives a bit more space for less rub!

I run them but recently sold some because I just couldn’t arsed to set them up on another bike. But kinda regret selling them because they are good when they are good…

  • i’ll have them

  • Sounds like I’d hate them 😂
Very much sounds like someone like @amey would love them

  • distinctive diff between these and 2 pot shimano IME, same rotor size, even took them to the alps last year, they bang, genuine rare good Hope product

  • Sold to amey, thanks to all for the interest!

@Dick, Totalshanner has pretty much covered it, but with 4 pistons instead of 2, getting everything lined up is much trickier. I had another set of these on a bike that just had one wheelset and loved them, but these were on a bike where I swapped between 700c and 650b wheels semi regularly and the pain of realigning everything compared to Shimano was what led to me replacing them.

  • one could argue that user:amey loves his braking more than his pedaling

  • They're great brakes. Unlike shimano road disc calipers, I've not managed to destroy these while clumsily bleeding them.
(but have only them with Hope discs/on one pair of wheels).
Glad Amey bought them as was fighting urge to by them myself.

  • I’ve always wanted to try a pair, but never ever had any issue with DA or Ult Shimano calipers, and feel like 4 pots would probably kill me given I’ve almost pitch-poled a cargo bike with 4 pots, and find the 2 pots on my XC bike way more than enough!

  • I had some (RX4s), couldn't stand them for the same reason and didn't last anything like 18 months before they came off the bike never to be used again... shame as they work brilliantly to an extent, they're just borderline unsetupable I found.

  • absolutely true!
