  • Garment steamers - are they better/worse than an iron? Any suggestions?

    @handtightenonly @Tenderloin @jb

  • “but I'm fed up with slim fit.”
Found 2 pairs of straight Albam selvage jeans in the wardrobe and my first thought was to flog them on here!? Put a pair on by mistake as I thought they were from my current stash of Edwin/Black horse lane which are all tapered and they look fine, no idea why I stopped wearing them.

  • We have the steamery one - it’s good for T-shirts, polos and trousers etc. Can be used for shirts but tbh I prefer an iron for that. I’d recommend it

  • We have the Cirrus - want a portable one. So I can’t speak to the permanent ones but I’ve been impressed with the quality so would imagine that goes for the others too

  • Cheers, really useful info. I think we’ll get the stratus as it has a crease making attachment too

  • Lemme know what you think - we’ve thought about one of those type before so be good to know how you get on

  • Anyone on here have a Poten cap?
Considering the prices I figure this is the place to ask since I don't golf.
Also looking at Toys McCoy et cetera.

  • Looking to get a pair of Nigel Cabourn inspired shorts. Something along these lines

Think these could work if I go oversize?

  • Has anyone tried an Asket t-shirt? I'd like a couple of plain black ones but wondering if they're worth the £35. Suggestions for anything else worth looking at also appreciated! £35 is absolutely the top of the budget.

  • Arket or Asket?

  • John Lewis Everyday.

  • Asket! I've only just clocked that there are 2 brands with very similar names. I'm not a fashion guy, more of a "band t shirt and second hand jeans" guy generally. Trying to clean up my act.

  • Good tip, thanks!

  • Love his jacket.

  • Struggling with the right shoes to match a few dark suits in this sort of summer cut. Really happy with the manor jacket from universal works with matching trousers.

    Recommendations?

  • got a wedding next month and looking for advice.

Own a nice linen suit that i wore to a garden party last year and generally liked the look. I'd like to spice it up a bit with a slightly more adventurous shirt. Maybe something with a pattern or a brighter colour. Probably I'll wear the same trousers/shoes again but i'm not wedded (heh) to this, I can change it up.

    Any advice?

edit - not my own wedding, just for clarity.

  • Some ideas here https://dieworkwear.com/2020/03/14/a-guide-to-spring-tailoring/

A chambray shirt could be nice, or a dark navy. And a little looser in the trouser. And a 2" turn up

  • Brutal view - I'd leave the shirt and change the shoes and belt

  • i'm no fashion guy so happy to hear the hard truths!

thanks @fredtc - will consider that.

  • Do you have matching trousers for the jacket? Totally agree Re chambray and a change of shoes would be good too. I get the heeby jeebs when I pull up to a wedding and people are wearing trainers with suits.

  • tbf the instruction was to dress casual! But I don't mind wearing some nicer shoes either. Brown brogues or something else?

I don't have matching trousers. If I were to buy a pair, it would be good to get some that would work as a standalone pair. I do have a nice pair of looser fit tan cotton trousers but i feel tan wouldn't pair well with the greyer tones of the jacket?

Any recommendations for a chambray shirt? I'm quite tall so need something long but still reasonably fitted?

  • Ah, when you said suit I envisaged a suit suit, not a jacket and trousers type of affair.

You do you if its casual. Though, I think a pair of trousers that sit higher on your natural waist would look better. You look pretty tall, but the length of those trousers are making your legs look shorter than they probably actually are?

Yeah, I wouldn't wear tan trousers with that jacket unless they were cut from the same cloth.

Can't really go wrong with a Drake's chambray, but don't know what your budget is.

  • I mean the wedding pic i posted above was casual. I'm 198cm so yeah, fairly tall.

Safe to say that a £200 is not within my budget!

I'll have a think about a pair of trousers with a different cut. Are we collectively comfortable with a combo of chambray shirt, navy/dark blue trousers, brown brogues, and the linen jacket from above would work? A previous posted said ditch the belt... is it that specific belt that offends or is it case going for a more minimalistic no belt at all?

  • It was me on the belt and tbh that was just personal taste - I'd still say keep the belt Vs no belt at all.

Brogues would def be an improvement imo
