  • It's fair enough.. you've bought the record and if I managed Knower I'd pause the streaming for a bit to sell records.

  • Pre-ordered too. Got to hear the full album through the dealer mailout. Sadly can't share links on pain of death! It's all good though.

  • Sweet!
I realised it's been a good while since Kamaal Williams had anything out too. 🤔

  • 4-6 month bandcamp exclusive.

Personally I think digital purchase is worth every penny.

    I’ve also bought the vinyl.

  • This is interesting..

  • Genz person on the rather empty EC train humming 'take five' :-O

  • So a month after I say it's been a while since Kamaal Williams had an album out...he announces a new album! 😁👍

  • Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven't heard anybody yet who has come after him - Miles Davis

    #HerbieHancock tonight at the Barbican.

… from Bebop to HipHop (six decades of music) a maestro with a legendary line up

    • James Genus on bass
    • Jaylen Petinaud on drums
    • Lionel Loueke on guitar
    • Terence Blanchard on trumpet

    #Edit #post #performance
a beautiful tribute for Wayne Shorter, musical influences from the US, South America and Africa.. voice synth moments, 80s drumming patterns with a trap-esque stack cymbal (smack stack) for those distinctive break beats, powerful horn solos, incredible guitar synth riffs and a bass sound to give you goosebumps. Herbie Hancock on an assortment of keyboards. Bringing tons of instrumental weaponry to a 90 minute show.

At 83 years the man still has loads of swag, revelled with delight in front of a full house. Acoustically the whole set was solid.

  • Treated Mrs M and two of her coolest mates to see #JoshMilan tonight at the Jazz Cafe, Camden.

Amazing live-spiritual-uplifting performance, sound reminiscent of Donald Byrd without the horns and Louie Vega came into my thoughts of mixes past. Josh Milan also performed a track or two from his Alexander Hope days.

    LINE UP
    Jamesy (Makin' Moves)
    DJ Matt Langrish-Smith
    Josh Milan + band

I will add more details later regarding

    • Bass
    • Percussion
    • Drums
    • Backing singers included Dawn Tallman who sang For Me

Sadly no encore, hard stop at 10.30pm
by 10.45pm the venue had changed
to a cheesy club night with young crowd piling in and the vibe was lost in an instant.

But a great evening was had.

  • I’ve been a sideline Miles Davis fan for years but only really listened to the early stuff. This was on some obscure high number Freeview channel a couple of weeks ago and it’s KILLER.

  • I'm not so sure about the new Yussef Dayes. I've only had one listen, but it didn't exactly grab me. 🤔

  • I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I ordered it on the strength of the title track which is pure brilliance (IMO). So my expectations have already been raised by quite a lot.

Also a very big well done to the Ezra Collective for their Mercury Prize win. Such a bloody good album!

  • Was so pleased to see Ezra Collective win, I was convinced it was going to be the bloody Arctic Monkeys.

  • Arctic Monkeys.

    That album was irredeemably shit.
So it had a good chance.

  • This is great. Second track in particular.

  • New Jamie Branch is fucking great, and also very sad at the same time.

I saw un.procedure last weekend and was very impressed. Cassie Kinohsi of off (early) Kokoroko and seed. on sax in a trio with synth and drums. Kinda like a more Kraftwerk Comet Is Coming at times.

  • Collectors recommendation, Ira Sullivan - Horizons. Picked it up from one of my locals as it was £8, liked the cover, and 60s Atlantic Jazz Mono. Surprisingly it's fantastic; reminds me a lot of Coltrane's pre Love Supreme Impulse records.

  • So is that Brown Penny renamed or another new project for Cassie?

  • Great recognition and richly deserved.

I hear influences from Fela Kuti, Les Frères Smith, Colombian Cumbia in Ezra Collective’s music.

  • I've had one listen through, I like what I've heard so it's worth a purchase for me. There's one track with a bassline that sounds like 'I Want You Back' by the Jackson 5 which stood out for sure.

  • Don't get me wrong, I don't regret buying it...I'm just not blown away after the first listen.

  • I've been listening to it for a few months as I got the pre release audio for it and I like it a lot.

Waiting for my copy to arrive in my next batch.

  • Highly recommended, but an absolute time sink: https://theheatwarps.com/
