  • A fish knife? That's not really a knife is it?

  • Perhaps they meant "fish knife" as in the ones used by fishmongers as opposed to an ornate butter knife used for the fish course.

  • I guess we're never going to find out what the pitta bread was for.

  • Assume the editor killed it because of fear of eye-for-an-eye revenge stories? (probably in NYT article, but I've not read it) I'm sure there are plenty more serial abusers across all branches of the media and they all have stories ready on the others, just in case...

  • Excited to see that the Raleigh Chopper is being re-released in a new but authentic version and for the bargain price of somewhere just under £1000.

  • The NYT article details multiple incidents of UK journalists having "newsworthy incidents" that appeared on rival papers website before being deleted. Omerta for real.

  • A link would help, so here it is https://archive.ph/6WoLl

The rule is that journalists don't criticise each other unless it can't be avoided, e.g. when there's a court case. Been that way for ages. There is so much misconduct of every description going on at all the papers that nobody can afford to start a fight.

  • I'm sure there are plenty more Cohens across all branches of the media

No doubt inadvertent but that reeks of anti-semitism, maybe a bit of an edit needed

  • So used to seeing the same shit day after day that I read this as 'migrants'.

  • I agree reading it back. Clearly not meant. Done.

  • I wasn't aware of this cunt until the recent news. But supposedly he made good money from speaking engagements? The world just loves a bully it seems.

  • Just the western world's obsession with "heroes". It's not a surprise that we train men (mostly) to be killers and train the "best" of those into special forces to do seemingly impossible things (the VC citation for Ben Roberts Smith reads like an over the top war movie for example) and then they step over a line.

The military/government/media paints war as something clean in the modern era but the truth is a lot more murky.

  • AI-controlled US military drone ‘kills’ its operator in simulated test

...when the operator instructs it not to attack certain targets. When it's trained not to kill the operator, it takes out communications infrastructure to prevent the operator telling it what not to attack.

    We're all fucked, aren't we?

  • Saw that story. Entirely unsurprising - machine learning systems are good at finding loopholes in the rules humans set for them. Like the system which was supposed to detect early signs of tuberculosis in chest x-rays; initially seemed to be successful, but it turned out it had just learned to spot when somebody had used an X-Ray device sited near a respiratory medicine ward. Systems supposed to learn to win at computer games but mostly learn to make them crash so that they don't lose, list goes on.

People in positions of power like AI because it offers them a way of avoiding accountability. A particularly lethal attitude when those systems will decide who to kill.

  • It’s not a criminal trial. It’s one bad apple. He’s Aussie, so not really one of ‘our boys’. Persecuting those who protect us helps the terrorists.

Shut up and empty your pockets into the Help For Heroes jar.

  • paints war as something clean

    Indeed:

  • He's nice to old ladies, how can you believe that such a person would kick a disabled man?

  • People in positions of power like AI because it offers them a way of avoiding accountability. A particularly lethal attitude when those systems will decide who to kill.

Maybe the AI works out that the leaders of the countries tend to kill more than the terrorists and decides a strike on politicians would save more lives.

  • It is as smart as a teenager that wants to disrupt class and troll the teacher then ;)

  • That describes his entire political career before he himself became PM.

  • A drone wearing a dishevelled blonde wig will end the world ;)

But yeah, no accountability at all for that gobshite for far too long.
