I’m going to guess it’s fear of saying the wrong thing, I hope, that’s making lots of people on here not say anything. Not because of being banned, but because of the instant polarised view point being applied to them.
As a cis white hetero dude with the world built for me, I don’t want anyone to hurt.
I can see why women want women only spaces and I would also advocate for any one wanting space away from the fucking oppressive bullshit of not being a white cis hetero.
I’m pretty sure most centrist dads like me, I don’t think I am but I bet I am, can see that not recognising someone for who they say they are is oppressive. All the bullshit of that.
And we can all see the bullshit of the state police and how it’s not safe for anyone other than those in power.
It’s clear that this is being used in the same way as racism and homophobia are/were to keep people fighting. Rather than changing the problems at the top.
But, this is new - it’s not though is it really?
Competition rules can be changed but everyone needs to be listened to right? Unless they’re screaming hate. And this is where if you want an ally you need to help me find what is “dog whistle hate speech” and what is “well that sounds reasonable for a woman of about my age and their lived experience”
I still don’t think I as a man should have much input when it comes to “what is the other category” for sports competition. Because as a man, my category will (unless there’s bigger change) be protected whatever I say.
