• Lemme give you a single example, although there are many...

    Dwarf wall and velux
I wanted it to meet with the bottom of a single huge (UK10) top hung Velux and be a whole wall of cupboard doors, so it looked like built in cupboards.
What I got is the usual dwarf wall with a couple of small doors.

    Why?
First off, despite me checking, and them checking at one point too, when it came to ordering the windows they claimed they couldn't get the size I wanted, so second size option it is, after measuring up it turns out that wouldn't fit either, but we could fit two of the next size down! So it's option 3. Sadly the dwarf wall was already built by then, so would no longer line up as planned, plus due to the ensuite not fitting where it was first intended, there was now a radiator on the dwarf wall (hence not able to be all doors).

So basically lots of those, small things impacting small things until they are big things. They also fucked up a threshold which I am not happy about but can't be bothered to kick up a fuss (I was clear I wanted no threshold level changes across the loft/stairs and they said they'd make sure it wouldn't happed, yet once the stairs were installed, its happened, they will be fixing the main one though).

In the grand scheme of things, no one dies, and obvs there are far worse things in the world, but after all the effort (and money) I have put into this it irks a bit.

Obvs the solution is having more money (to spend on better planning and project management), but sadly not an option.

On the flip side, I actually really like the builders and project manager, they are total LADS, and I am getting what I paid for, I just wanted more...

  • all the effort (and money)

I think this is the issue we have.

    We've basically spent:

    • a year searching / engaging
    • >£10k
    • 2 wks of disruption and nomading

To achieve a floor that is not actually our ideal, just the best compromise we could come to.
