  • These are essentially timber boards and are usually measured in thickness, width and length. It's pretty much use some common sense to interpret the poor listing information

  • I am made peace with the fact is my loft is basic bitch+, going to throw some money into some custom cabinetry, not that I have any, but hopefully that'll lift it up a bit.

  • Did lol

They're all just sheds on a roof. No matter what dream you've been sold.

  • I almost posted this the other day but deleted it. However, Chris' post has brought it back to mind.

It seems like there are a lot of perfectionists on here. How do your partners deal with your disappointment when things don't work out as expected, and is there anything they can do?

E.g. these three dark tiles next to each other.

  • How do your partners deal with your disappointment when things don't work out as expected:
By telling me to stop being a perfectionist , and eventually getting irritated

And is there anything they can do?
    No

  • 👍

I'll probably just keep quiet then.

  • Not at all. You just need a proper architect and a team who are fully managed to work towards the vision. I’d hoped to be able to do all that with very limited resources, but sadly not.

  • I’ve pretty much given up trying to involve my partner in any form of decision making because they just don’t bother which ends in arguments.

  • What's transpired which has made you feel down bro?

  • Real life everything isnt always like instagram and nothing is ever perfect.

But then again, depends how much of grief you wanna give yourself by telling your wife to give her head a shake over a triviality.

  • That would probably annoy me and I might have a word with the flooring people. One thing I’ve learnt about IG house accounts is that there is a lot of photoshop going on to make them look more perfect

We have this pull out integrated bin and it’s total crap but I’m struggling to find a two bin 400mm pull out bin. Any help?

  • Do Hafele not make one? Otherwise I'd try Daro, but they may just stock Wesco ones.

  • Like those "desk setups", where there are no cables, but yet everything except the plant requires electricity.

On the subject of photoshop, what's interesting is my OH went back and double checked the flooring reviews - where a few people commented on the variance in color. I noticed that their leading picture had been photoshoped to reduce inconsistencies vs subsequent photos which were more varied.

RE the 3 tiles the trouble is that once you account for wastage (of which there is fucking tonnes) there is no fat to get them to rip up a section. Frustratingly my OH wanted to flag to them not to do that.

  • What's the issue out of curiosity?

Last week we were staying a a mates who had a bin the same design as that and it seemed great. It's a Howdens kitchen. I'll see if they know what it is.

  • It’s badly designed so really wobbles which is pulling the door out of alignment and making it rub.

@Prole. the only Hafele ones I can find have one large bin and one very small which isn’t ideal

  • Vauth-Sagel are good.

  • Lemme give you a single example, although there are many...

    Dwarf wall and velux
I wanted it to meet with the bottom of a single huge (UK10) top hung Velux and be a whole wall of cupboard doors, so it looked like built in cupboards.
What I got is the usual dwarf wall with a couple of small doors.

    Why?
First off, despite me checking, and them checking at one point too, when it came to ordering the windows they claimed they couldn't get the size I wanted, so second size option it is, after measuring up it turns out that wouldn't fit either, but we could fit two of the next size down! So it's option 3. Sadly the dwarf wall was already built by then, so would no longer line up as planned, plus due to the ensuite not fitting where it was first intended, there was now a radiator on the dwarf wall (hence not able to be all doors).

So basically lots of those, small things impacting small things until they are big things. They also fucked up a threshold which I am not happy about but can't be bothered to kick up a fuss (I was clear I wanted no threshold level changes across the loft/stairs and they said they'd make sure it wouldn't happed, yet once the stairs were installed, its happened, they will be fixing the main one though).

In the grand scheme of things, no one dies, and obvs there are far worse things in the world, but after all the effort (and money) I have put into this it irks a bit.

Obvs the solution is having more money (to spend on better planning and project management), but sadly not an option.

On the flip side, I actually really like the builders and project manager, they are total LADS, and I am getting what I paid for, I just wanted more...

  • It is perfect if you are golf club rich.

  • Does this strike anyone else as a tad impractical/dangerous?

  • Ok. Theirs just pulls out like normal and I guess it's been in a bit under a year. I'm working here today as my OH nabbed the one usable room at ours.

I'll see if I can have a look without being creepy!

  • I have the Howdens 400mm pull out. Same principle as yours but from the picture I'd say it's a bit more sturdy, if that's what you're looking for?
The shelf above is annoying to get anything out of though.

  • all the effort (and money)

I think this is the issue we have.

    We've basically spent:

    • a year searching / engaging
    • >£10k
    • 2 wks of disruption and nomading

To achieve a floor that is not actually our ideal, just the best compromise we could come to.

  • The shelf above is annoying to get anything out of though.

Yeah - it's so fucking deep isn't it? I wondered if it'd be worth getting a basic tray (like a school dinner tray) as an effective low tech solution.
