  • Christ, I hadn’t seen the full clip, the short ones are painful enough. it’s like some body is pulling the string on the back of an action man and it just repeats the same phrase over and over again.

  • They should air more of these extended clips. You'd see the lengths they keep going to to get their precious little soundbite on the tellybox and it'd have the opposite effect.

  • Saw that yesterday. So embarrassing to watch. No wonder he avoids interviews wherever possible.

  • It's a tactic.

It means that no matter how they edit the clip the soundbite gets on TV. Obviously the way to counter it is to play the extended clip but not every agency has the airtime.

  • "We asked the Prime Minister for a comment, but no matter what question we asked, he parroted the same irrelevant soundbite, so we're not going to air it. Now, over to Tomasz with the weather."

  • Yeah, I like that.

  • not every agency has the airtime

Not only that, but the politicians' comms directors often know almost exactly how long the slot is and then write/rehearse the soundbite accordingly.

    Bearlegged's approach would be excellent

  • St0P tH3 BoAtS!!1!!

  • Secret Tory outed themselves as an ultra marathon runner from Yorkshire who appears to be mostly mullet

  • I generally find the Staggers as dull as weak tea but NatCon seems to have enabled some mild tumescence in the drifty millenials...

  • Govt taking its own inquiry to court over privacy concerns. Lots to hide, methinks... And very free and easy spending our money on their own lawyers (as always). If this is about ministers' and appointed officials' privacy, let them spend their own fucking money on it.

Some of it must be REALLY embarrassing and should be leaked asap.

(also Johnson's WhatsApp handover was only from his 'new' phone - so heaps of stuff missing there from probably the critical period of the piece also)

  • It's just a parody account? Only heard of it for the first time yesterday

  • Lots to cover up!. Making it up as they went along, the lack of rigour around the lockdown spending and the lobbying for PPE contracts, just for starters.
The Hancock leak was pretty telling.

  • Is Johnson really dumb enough to send over what apps that are going to incriminate him. Some careful editing maybe

  • I'm clearly guessing, but he knows there's stuff which will incriminate him, but plenty will be there that was sent to him by others that may destroy them. Trying to recall, who was Chancellor at the time and against closing anything down?

  • @georgegrylls on Twitter:

Baroness Hallett wrote to Boris Johnson on February 3 with a list of 150 questions about the government’s handling of the pandemic.

  • Of course not. But the same conversations might not have the same careful editing on someone else’s device.

  • I'm still surprised that govt types use WA. It's not exactly secure.

  • Yep although they strung plenty of people along for quite a time

  • Is Johnson really dumb enough to send over what apps that are going to incriminate him.

He's passed the ball to the government and made it their problem. For now, the story is entirely about government obstruction. Smart move.

  • Johnson is just trolling his party now isn't he? Saying he will hand over everything as has nothing to hide while the government announce court action to not share data, makes them all look dodgy with something to hide and him compliant and open

  • Guessing some current Ministers have stuff they want to redact, so he can fuck them off by releasing the info unredacted.

Of course, he may provide a fraction of what he is supposed to provide (and need to be chased up for the remaining stuff) but that fact will not be reported anywhere nearly as widely as him being open and compliant is.

  • It’s everything from his latest phone though isn’t it - so it misses a huge chunk of time (most of which is the key period)
