• Already have an etrex, it's great but it does tend to throw itself off my bars to the ground at first sign of any bumps. Ideally I'd like a smaller etrex with a sleeker user interface and a securer bike interface that could be charged via USB.

Upload a GPX and follow a line on a screen is all I really need.

  • Are you using the Garmin etrex slide mount? It's shit.
I prefer the Garmin 1/4 turn mount adapter and run a lanyard for backup.

The old Wahoos would do what you want - smaller than etrex, quicker to use (wifi sync etc)

  • i read about this on the internet but have had zero issues with garmin's own mount zip tied, it hasnt come off even once on bumpy stuff, i still have a lanyard to secure

  • Some etrex mounts are a bit poor. Put some tape (thick like Gorilla) on the mount, so it's on the base of the slide bit, this will create some pressure and then should be solid. Also use a leash around the bars. They do work really quite well.

Next best would be OSMAND app.

  • Is the mount garmin's own one or something else from amazon or something?

I have two mounts and two etrexs and have never had a problem with these. I do have lanyard to be safe but it's never slipped from the mount even if I bottom out the fork on a jump or crash. But maybe I've just been lucky.

You could use rechargeable batteries, you can get ones with built in usb port, like these

Not quite as sleek as charging the device itself but can be better this way if it's raining.

    There's a fix for that: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16437698/
