Yeah, I'm aware of The Verve case, the Loog made them pay alright. I'm still amazed they released that record without clearing that particular sample, it was so obvious at the time and everyone was aware of the law wrt overt sampling by then.
I'm using the BJ loop in the background under another kit, it isn't obvious at all. I'll play it to a few people when it's finished and see what they think.

If it’s so buried, why not record an approximation that doesn’t have 5 consecutive notes or whatever the rule is? Unless the sample is a sort of Easter egg that’s satisfying to hide in there, which I would get
I kinda did this in the end, finally got around to working on a couple of the tracks yesterday. Took the BJ loop out then just worked on the rhythm track until it sounded as good as it did with it in. If that makes sense? Didn't take long!
Just need to make the rest of it not sound shit now. 🤣🤯
