Might be Quincy Jones for the drums & bass as he produced Thriller. He had a fairly widely publicised case fighting the remastering of that album a few years ago. He's recently defended MJ against claims that the Billie Jean bassline is sampled from Donna Summer - State Of Independence.
In fairness if you're using that sample and you get traction with a hit you will probably get taken for every penny you might earn from it in perpetuity. Worth looking at The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony case, they have only recently been granted license by The Stones to profit from that track (not historically) and the sample they used was from an orchestral version of a Stones hit.
If you want to do a deal with the owners you should do it before release and there would need to be massive upside for the owners to even discuss it with you since they can wait for you to release it and sue you for the money if you have a worldwide hit.
For anyone who doesn't know much about Quincy Jones it's worth finding out about him. Frank Sinatra gave him his pinky ring.
It’s Michael jackson. His estate may well be snarky about it even though he’s been dead a while…
Get clearance from Prs detail below… good luck.
