My car doesn't start.
Seems to have sufficient electricity, it turns over but won't quite catch.

Now, after 10 minutes it starts, drives then within a mile cuts out. No warning lights. No bad noises. Just no power. Which is exciting.

Cam or crank position sensor is my bet.
The ECU won't know (due to the sensor being on the blink) when to fire the spark plugs.
Eventually the sensor gives enough info for the ECU to take a stab at it, but then it drops out again and the ECU stops firing.
Or, demonic possession.

Camshaft or crank position sensor errors usually throw an engine management light?
-
• #74731
"If there is no RPM signal when the engine cranks, the problem is usually with the crankshaft position sensor. This sensor measures the car's RPM, and the car won't start if the sensor isn't functioning properly. Your car may refuse to start, or stall, intermittently if the crankshaft position sensor has a problem."

It started again now, after an hour of praying. It's at home so that's ok. Will ring the garage in the morning since they only serviced and MOT'd it last week.

Depends on the sophistication of the car I think, my Volvo didn't, I imagine my newer vehicles would have done but never experienced it.

Always looks like an excellent weekend! I haven't been to an RR event since it used to be at Shelsey Walsh, just too many things in the calendar.

A mate of mine just started racing in a BMW one make series put on by 750MC. 116 Trophy, 90 minute "endurance" event with 2 driver. I went to see him at Brands this weekend, I wasn't expecting a 40 car field and race trucks! Seems like a good event.

Preparing for a family funeral and going through photos. One of the mother-in-laws cars, cost a fortune every time it broke down but she lived it. Unfortunately she only has a berlingo nowadays.

Was there on Sat a great show as always. I actually prefer the weekender to the gathering now it has moved to Mallory.

Yes bit more chilled and friendly imo than the pomp and wankery of FoS / Revival.
Weather always helps.

Need some help to decide, have found an oil filter (Halfords hof200 fitted my Saab) that has been in a garage for at least 10 years. Would you bin it or offer it for free for someonr?

Is it sealed in plastic? Otherwise ten years with a rubber seal exposed to the air doesn't sound great.
And not enough people still smoke to sell it as a novelty ashtray.

Quite a few fast fords there too, a V8 Twin Turbo, Twin Supercharged Capri running 1000BHP a Mk1 Cortina with a turbocharged Cosworth lump in it, plenty to keep you drooling :)

Went to a local motorcycle show. Too many stupid Harley's really but someone bought this along in the car park. Not my cup of tea but more interesting than 90% of the bikes on show. I doubt there's any Model T in it though.
