The buyer now has legal title
I remember reading words to this effect when I last had the patience to read through eBay's FAQ - probablay 2002-2004. Does it hold water legally, do you think? eBay are obviously keen to describe their legitimacy but I'm genuinely curious about whether it's water tight.

Just checked, the buyer can cancel within 30 days if I read correctly
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/getting-paid/canceling-transaction?id=4136
Never knew that..

"Attention buyer
It looks like items from this seller currently aren't available for purchase. We recommend that you search for similar items from other sellers."
Huh? It says there's 3 of the items available. WTF does this really mean?

Purchased an item on ebay, it worked for a few days and then it died suddenly. I started a return request yesterday stating "item faulty" and now this morning the seller replies asking to send it back but the reason has changed to "customer changed his mind". Is this normal? What can I do?

Got some ballache where I ordered two identical items from two different sellers. One turned up and one didn't (and was marked as undelivered on ebay).
Turns out the one that turned up was actually the one that was marked as undelivered (the tracking number was wrong) and the one that is marked as delivered was, according to the tracking, delivered to a random house on the street a week ago.
I'll go and knock on some doors but does anyone know what the ebay position is on claiming not delivered a week after it claims it has been delivered (and tracking says it has been delivered but not to me)?

Has happened to me, I would just give them a call and tell them exactly what has happened. Same situation has happened to me with an item 'delivered' with Royal Mail, I explained and they opened a case as not received whilst on the phone and was refunded a week or so after.
I can never find the 'call us button' on the website so go into the automated assistant chat box and type 'speak to an adviser' they'll call you.

Morning all. What's the deal with selling something that's collection only in terms of potential returns/vulnerability as a seller.
I've sold a tent (brand new, still packaged) and listed as local collection and cash on collection and someone has bought it and wants to collect at the weekend which is fine by me. They have also paid despite my saying cash on collection. I've no issue with this unless they are able to collect the tent and then in a few weeks make a claim for item not as described etc and leave me high and dry and potentially liable for return postage of a 40kg item?
Am I completely safe, ie is there something to scan between us in person to say they've collected and are happy and they then lose the right to return? If so, no worries, but of not, I'll msg (they have a mobile number) and ask them to cancel now or upon collection and inspect and pay cash/BACS in person - they may think that's a bit dodgy albeit I've got good history and feedback??
Cheers for advice/guidance in advance

Seems I was unfairly maligning Royal Mail, the muppet who posted it had put the wrong address and no name on the parcel. Fortunately I managed to track it down and avoid the ebay hassle.

I had a situation a few years ago where someone bought some furniture off me, paid upfront, when they collected I got them to check confirm thet were happy with it, all smiles and then tried to say item not described/damaged and get a refund, annoyingly they seemed to have damaged it after collection presumably to get it for free.
When I provided this information, eBay sided with me and closed the case.
I think if someone opened a dispute having collected in person ebay would likely side with you, but only have my one experience to go on.

Hi, and thanks for that. I've spoken to eBay who've said they will have a QR code to scan (I scan it to show the item has been collected as we're physically in the same space) once the item has been inspected and collected (it's brand new not put the box so shouldn't take long) and whilst they may be unscrupulous and 6 weeks later claim not as described, even if they got the go ahead to return, it'd be at their cost (unlike items you post, as a seller) so given it's gotta be £50 to post it back it's unlikely they'll be out to scam in such a way

Morning members
Need some advice.
Had a package delivered to my street communal flat door and not flat door.
Evri basically dumped my package on the street and it was stolen. No note or anything.
Contacted the seller who reached to evri .
I've raised a case with ebay which I lost and seller's money has been held.
How do I escalate this?
Please and tanks -

Complain to ebay via https://www.resolver.co.uk/ and keep at them. Have had this and took quite a bit of effort before I eventually got it refunded. Initially ebay just look at evri's 'delivery confirmed' thing and will ignore you. Was Hermes when I did it, but they had tried to claim it had been 'delivered to reception' at my flat.

sort of a pre-shenanigans post here...
i'm going to collect an ebay project bike this evening which i suspect may have a stuck seatpost due to the age and condition.
it was a bit of a last minute punt on a zero bids auction so i didn't have time to question the seller beforehand, and the description on the listing was very sparse.if i go to collect and confirm my suspicions that it is indeed knackered, am i within my rights to void the purchase? (i'm going to pay cash on collection)

I would say yes, you are within rights to cancel.
If you're buying a bike and a big fault is not cited in the description then you are being sold a pup. Small issues are to be expected in a project bike but a seized seatpost is pretty major. See also: seized stem, bent/cracked frame, excessive rust.
Also you can arguably haggle over significant damage to parts like missing teeth on chainrings, saddles that turn out to be ripped up, etc.
The most recent issue that caught me out was a seam of rust on a 653 chainstay. After stripping the bike, melting a seized BB out with caustic and then de-rusting the frame, the rust seam was actually a crack right through the stay. Frame written off. So do be thorough and cautious.

cheers for the reply.
I'll take some tools with me and have a thorough check of the frame before handing over the cash.
there's also a slightly suspicious bit of tape wrapped around the ds seatstay that I want to have a look underneath...
keeping my fingers crossed! -

Ah yes the old "we'll put a sticker on that".
Good luck with the purchase and I hope it's all sound.

seatpost moves and frame checks out ok!

Fuck the rights, you're not going to hand over cash for a lemon are you? Your ebay feedback score really isn't that important!

Rant: I sold some shifters on eBay. After posting, it became clear that the buyer didn't look at the description or photos. The buyer asks to return the shifters (the listing was returns not accepted), I reject. eBay sides with the buyer and I have to cover 2x postage costs; such a waste of time.

This happened to me last year. I had a women's gilet listed and had some guy buy it. He got the item, realised it was women's and then forced me to pay for a return even though it was listed correctly. I ended up complaining to eBay and they refunded the postage and gave me £15 in credit to say sorry. Might be worth dropping them an email?

Thanks for the info.
I’ll send an email this weekend 👍🏼 -

What happened to 70% off final value fees / £1 listing - I haven’t had a promo since beginning of March
-

I get emails about 80% off fees offers about once a week or so, definitely still about.
thanks, I have done that, let's see what happens
