Last night at Rye Harbour I was kept awake by nocturnal cuckoo and a booming Bittern. It made me wonder what the chances of the mournful lovelorn heron were of finding a mate, considering they're hardly common. I do hope the poor bugger got laid for his own sake as well as for the survival of the species in the UK. It is a quite amazing sound.
