Bit early for G-Shock Thursday but I picked up a couple of the 40th anniversary “Re-Masterpiece” watches. The 6640 sold out quite quickly and seems to be trading at about double retail so I’ll probably be selling it - it’s cool but the size and shape doesn’t really do it for me.
Will probably keep the 5657 though (so called because it comes with both 5600 and 5700 bezels) as I love a good 5700.
Packaging on the 6640 is really cool btw.

5657
I was thinking about picking one of these up. Recommended?

I like that one but it looked too similar to the black 2100 I already have.

I mean… it's a black 5600 (non-solar) with a gold coloured keeper, a red logo on the screen when you hit the backlight, a special caseback, and some text moulded into the strap. Oh, and a star laser engraved onto the mode button. It also comes with a tool to change the bezel easily. I like the way it looks with the 5700 bezel on it but it's a fan service piece really. For me it’s a 6/10 as a 5600, 8/10 as a 5700.
The thing I never really get on with re: 5600s is when they have no printing on the screen surround. Always looks a little odd to me. The 5700 aperture is a lot smaller and it looks fine with a blank screen surround.

I don't think it's a must-have. But they don't do many 5700s, and I tend to favour all-black G-shocks with positive screens (rather than the reversed ones they often put on "black-out" models). And if I can sell the 6640 for ÂŁ200+ then this one was basically free.

What's the 1 2 3 4 5 for on the screen?
-

It just counts the seconds as far as I can tell. The arrows below are one every ten seconds, the little lozenges count the individual seconds. I’m not sure if it indicates something else in one of the other modes.
Edit: from reading the manual, it looks like it might also indicate a 5-second countdown before the stopwatch starts, if you set it to do that.

Just in case anyone wants a new Marathon CSAR, there's a US dealer selling NOS 2020 ones for $1950, maybe add a third if you import it yourself? https://www.chrono24.co.uk/all/marathon-csar-black-label-edition--id22248789.htm Dealer price in the US is $4500. In the UK it's ÂŁ4385. I emailed the dealer and he is for real, with good feedback.

I like the lettering a lot! Also it looks quite large for a watch of that vintage. Nice find.

just catching up on this thread and saw your post, with blurry dog in background.
Immediate thought was "oh come on! you can't do that - we need to see your dog!"Then immediately afterwards was a dog ref request and follow-up photo.
Love this forum! :-D

Just back from Swiss time services after a service and glass.
Two year warranty and as water resistant as the day it left the factory in 1968.

That is really good for the eyes and I imagine really bad for the wallet. My grail watch.

Prices seem to vary wildly according to year .......
We kept the patina and only lightly buffed it. Service and glass was ÂŁ550. -
