Security Gateway seems knackered. Won't reset (at least the lights that show it is resetting don't come on and nothing changes after), I opened it up and flashed the internal USB with firmware and tried another USB stick (although that was through a precarious daisy chaining of USB C to USB 3 adapters) and no change.
Fortunately the APs still work so I haven't had to reconfigure all my wifi settings but trying to set up static IPs and port forwarding on the Virgin router is very painful.
Anyone got a Unifi Security Gateway or similar they are looking to sell?

Can you mix & match mesh brands?
I've just changed broadband provider & the new one has sent an Linksys Atlas Pro 6 individual mesh unit & an unbranded black box which I guess is the modem.
I was previously using the old providers router in modem mode with a load of TP Link Decos dotted around the house.
Can I link the TP Link stuff to the Linksys unit or should I just not bother with either the TP Links or the Linksys?

Very unlikely. There are no widely adopted standards for interoperability between mesh products. You might be able to cable them as access points, but DHCP etc probably wouldn't work properly and you'd probably have to spend a lot of time messing about.
Is that community fibre btw? I have an unused linksys unit from them for exactly that reason.
Choose one or the other...

Fair enough thanks - will give them a both a trial & see which is better.
Yes it's Community Fibre - installation process was good so they're already doing better than NowTV (or the BT open reach guy that put the cable in for them). -

if you need a spare linksys box...

Anyone got a Unifi Security Gateway or similar they are looking to sell?
I'm late to this, but my USG is coming to end of life (failing, so no good for you) and I was looking for another too.
But it looks like I'm going to be going down the OPNSense path instead: https://homenetworkguy.com/how-to/set-up-a-fully-functioning-home-network-using-opnsense/
You might want to look... this person replaced their USG with OPNSense and kept existing APs which the controller still adopts.

+1 for OPNsense, been using it as a firewall appliance for my company for ages.
Runs well in a VM, supports CPU hardware cryptographic extensions for use with private VPN server/client, loads of handy plugins for IPS/caching/filtering etc.

Can other people view the page?
For me the page won't less me pass the cookies confirmation.
Or is there a way around it?
Cheers

My setup is always different... I use NOSCRIPT in Firefox, only ever permit the domain in question, and then click the "only necessary cookies" and it works.

Having the same issue in Firefox and Brave as well. When I click on any of the 'accept' buttons nothing happens.
Odd.
Maybe I'll try turning off my nextdns.

Have you tried reflashing the internal USB drive? I did it using the existing flash drive but am thinking I should try it with a new flash drive (the fit is very snug so would probably need to buy a new one for it).
I briefly looked at OPNSense in the past but didn't realise it was compatible with Unifi APs. Seem to remember the boxes were quite expensive though and it looks like the kind of thing I could easily break and not have the knowledge to fix.
Not overly keen on buying another USG though as they don't seem that reliable.
@hugo7 Didn't work for me in Chrome with Privacy Badger and Ublock Origin. Same error. Worked in Edge where I have nothing (the page has a lot of ads).

My two Asus XT8's gives me nothing but issues. Keeps disconnecting, gets stuck in reboot-loops, etc etc. I've had it.
Google tells me Unifi, but a sales guy I just spoke to suggests TP Deco X60. https://www.tp-link.com/se/home-networking/deco/deco-x60/
Unifi setup would be Dream Router with an access point cabled + a repeater. Sales guy says it's overy complicated for what I need, esp as I can't be arsed with complex setups and managing stuff when issues occurs
Any pointers?

I was using Deco M4, and have finally got round to upgrading to some M5 I bought aaaaagggges ago now.
I really rate the Decos as products. Easy to install (both times), just work, good app with a range of useful features (e.g. I use the 'priority device' setting for our work laptops and I'm sure once my eldest is older I'll use the usage restrictions).
I can't be arsed with complex setups and managing stuff when issues occurs
I mean you've answered your own question here haven't you?

In case it's relevant I only 'upgraded' because I wanted to buy two more Decos to get WiFi to the end of my garden and the argos deal had ended on the M4. So I bought 3x M5 2nd hand off ebay.
There wasn't anything inherently wrong with the M4. Although I do think size wise the M5 is much better.
(excuse the mess - still getting the house in order)

Unifi stuff is more complicated than average to set up (although it is getting better) but tends to be fine once it is set up and left alone (although adding new stuff/updating software is a gamble between easy and massively annoying). Saying that my Unifi router has gone tits up and needs replacing so failure can be pretty catastrophic.
Deco stuff seems to get good reviews on here and I'm semi-pondering switching myself

Deco it is. Thanks for the input all!
-
• #1918
For those with Deco stuff, how is it on reliability?
With the Unifi stuff (until my router broke at least) it was fine without being rebooted or looked at for months on end, unlike my Virgin router which decides to stop working and needs rebooting every so often.

+1, also curious

I hate writing this as I feel it will jinx me...
I don't think I ever had any issues with my Deco M4 in ~3yrs. Like most of the people in this thread I bought it to fix my Virgin 'super' hub (lol). My OH was quite indignant about buying them, but they've been great from the get go.
We're not super heavy users, but our two M4 covered a 3 bed semi where one person 100% WFH, one person 70% WFH (both 60-80% video calls in a work day), with evening TV streaming usually with Spotify cast to a Google speaker at the same time.
I'm only 3 days into 3 x M5, so it feels a bit soon to comment. But it's basically the same but a bit further down the garden.
-
• #1921
I also use decos - have had 3 for 3 years with no issue. Added some more to get to the end of the garden - again had for a year with no issues. Easy to set up. Just work. Some of the usage restriction / parental controls are a bit sketchy but I use other stuff for that anyway.
Mine are all M4s.

Oh another neat little feature in the deco app resolved an issue I had...
We had builders in, and our outdoor freezer was getting tripped when too much power was put through the power from the shed.
I plugged a CCA into the same socket set and set up a push notification when it connected/disconnected.
I'm sure other products offer this, but I was impressed at how quick and easy it was via the app.

Oh if anyone is thinking of mixing 'n matching models, it's worth noting the higher model needs to be the primary one. That's why it took me so long to upgrading. If you want to add the same or lower models it's super easy at any point.
(obvs double check compatibility yourself)

Cheers. Sound promising, it would be the PoE ones I'd be looking at. Really depends on whether I can be bothered to look into the documentation to see how many SSIDs they allow and other customisable stuff.
(And be bothered to sell off more Unifi stuff.)

Unifi APs can be used with any router/switch; no need to pair them with other Ubiquiti kit.
They only need a Unifi controller (can be software or hardware) for the initial configuration, then will happily run standalone forever.
That's the problem with unifi. It's pretty reliable so I end up leaving alone and forgetting how to use it in between changes.
I would assume you would need a back up or have to rebuild the settings. When I migrated to cloud key, I couldn't get my back up going and had to start again.
