It's not a retaining load bearing wall - it's just that all walls in our house are made of brick. The wall above is offset. Every builder has said the same thing and it's only removing part of it.
So all said I'm not worried.
Just bitter about having to pay over £100 per joist hanger.
They'd likely have charged extra for the additional beam so think of it as you are paying their hourly rate no matter what and saving on material cost that would have "appeared"
Yeah I know. It's just there is a very different level of work between fucking around with a big beam (be it concrete or wood) and nailing some hangers in.
