  • Flax London, also SEH Kelly have linen/hemp options.

  • Gitman seems to be the go to for a lot of guys, never tried them though.

  • Super overpriced nowadays IMO tho. $205 for a seersucker short sleeved shirt? Sheeeesh. Its one of those only buy on eBay or at 40+% off sales.

  • I don't keep up with prices much but will pay more for an equivalent item made where employment practices are relatively fair over one from a place where it's almost impossible to accurately assess that. I'll admit that this often omits or includes some countries unfairly.

  • Oh, absolutely the same. I have a horrible EG habit and justify it by it being MiUSA. I just mean that shirt itself doesn't feel like its worth $205.

  • And actually, I feel average to nice clothing has generally gotten to be insanely priced. I was looking at Carhartt WIP the other day and holy shit - its like $160 for a shitty sweatshirt. And in fact, the price of new clothing right now is making me not buy clothes at all. Its great.

  • Yeah Gitman would be another I’d suggest - especially on eBay/Vestaire/depop bc its a bit more reasonable. As @JB says prices gone nuts.

For a brand new shirt - Jake’s London might be worth a look. I’m yet to get one of his but seems like a nice guy and some cool looking stuff

  • Same. Looking forward to some vintage clothes browsing when in Japan though!

  • Ooooh jelly. have fun.

  • Gotcha, also finding that premium priced clothing from Japan isn’t always top tier quality, this has been driven home to me lately.

  • I've just had a look at the Carhartt site.. I have an elderly Detroit jacket that cost me £50 in a sale years ago. Now £200. Inflation indeed.

  • Flax….

This is a good look, feels a bit Italian.

  • I feel average to nice clothing has generally gotten to be insanely priced

    it's true (and annoying)

  • I'm on the lookout for some gurkha-esque pants, pleated, side adjusters, cropped... think sprezzatura rather than colonial overlord.
I like the look of these Reiss ones (€195) but anything else I can find similar is either very expensive made-to-measure (€300+) or worryingly cheap Etsy offerings (<€50 and I'm also wary of buying new clothing on Etsy). Any recommendations?

Further context; I need to stop wearing jeans and hoodies to work and I want some nicely tailored trousers.

  • I have a couple of these - they're lovely

  • Would you be wearing it with loafers? To me those trousers are finished too high.

I would recommend Pini Parma, I don't own any of their stuff but I'd think it would be the best bet for a similar price to Reiss.

Personally I think you'd be better off spending a little more and going with a bricks and mortar place eg Anglo Italian as the service and fit will just be really good, which means you will wear the trousers more.

  • Oh that looks great

  • I would wear them with loafers alright or perhaps even sneakers for more casual days but I'm all for a bit of ankle cleavage.

I'll check out Pini Parma and Anglo Italian, forgot to mention I'm in Dublin, Ireland so bricks and mortar London spots aren't the handiest but I wouldn't rule it out if I find the right solution!

  • Has anyone on here bought Pini Parma stuff? Seems to be a nice middle ground before things get spendy.

Lads please wear socks with loafers (unless you are actually from Southern Italy).

  • Ooof that is not a good look, I can't decide if I'm sartorially enlightened or delusional now as an equal opportunist for socked and un-socked ankle cleavage when conditions are right...

This is closer to the outcome I would gravitate to...

  • Troos that short, that sit that low on the waist should be illegal. His proportions look ridic.

  • Good shout. And their trousers are the right length, with socks no less. Good pricing too.

  • Got a shirt from them. Really nice stuff. Bit short in the arms for my chimpanzee bod though so need to roll em up

  • That cuff is too big/heavy
