I'm thinking about getting this CSAR. It was on ebay with a starting price of £1000 but got no bids. I'm trying to talk the seller down to £900.
The scratches are a good excuse for a custom finish. I think sandblasted would look very nice. Or I could goldify it with a home electroplating kit. I reckon gold electroplating on all external surfaces apart from the bezel insert would be quite easy to do. I wouldn't try to plate anything behind the crystal. The bezel insert markers are a challenge. Some people electroplate the whole bezel then rub the gold off everywhere except the markers. Other people just use gold Humbrol.

What do you like so much about it? It would annoy me that it's 1 inch thick.

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but what would be a fair on here price for a Seiko SKX007 in good working order? No box or manual but it has the original bracelet and NATO strap.
I've had a while but it's had very little use. The previous owner had taken very good care of it but had fitted some aftermarket arms. Unfortunately one of them came loose and was dragging so my dad who repairs watches for Oxfam as a hobby opened it up and reset them. It's been 100% since (few years back) but i have no idea how this affects the waterproofing at depth. He also put it on one his timers and said it keeps time very well.

It's 18mm. I'm not too worried about that because I used to wear a 16.2mm Doppelchrono with a suit. Never took it off. I like everything about the CSAR. The side profile looks like the Parthenon. Easy to read weekday. Gas tubes. The lock rings on the pushers.

How baggy was your suits? Used car dealer baggy?

It was my double-breasted Boss era. Long ago, before slim fit suits were invented. The idea was to look creative but not eccentric. The clients were IT industry drones, who had a hard time assessing the work. They probably all judged me by clothes and car and gobby mouth.

Bagginess is irrelevant if you speak to your tailor and have an extra 1cm in your shirt and suit sleeve to accommodate a watch.

Top draw man! Love that you got Hoefler and the arial dis in there for good measure, ha!
Looked at the 'flat 4' on the Ultraman photo in the article and thought the aperture looked quite tight balance wise compared to the other numerals, then looked at the vintage one and as usual, it was way better.

Heh, thanks, yeah it was Thomas (VPC founder) who wrote the piece, not me, but he knows what’s up. I agree that he could have found a better vintage 4 to show that had a much more extreme shape - vintage Rolex date wheels for example.

Sorry didn't mean for it to come across like a stuck up wanker sort of comment, apologies if it did! Just thought it reiterates how important the work you’re doing is.

No, it didn't at all! Thanks for the support. :)
If I'd written it I definitely would have taken a swing at Tudor and Patek for their Arial habits.

Yeah, I thought so! Wanted an original for a while, but gave up with the prices and got this. Quite funky, I must say.

Better watch than the original in a few ways IMO.

The only thing I don’t like is the X on the dial and an unsigned crown.

Prices for the OG are hilarious

Thought I'd give a shout out for Alsal watches on here - took in a watch today with dust under the crystal - they sorted it for me and charged me not a thing. Simple job but the movement was fiddly to remove. Top place.
The trouble with watches is that I like too many of them. Don't we all have that problem? I used to wear one on each wrist. Might start doing it again if a few more of my watches actually worked.
