  • When I ate meat I loved a good BBQ. Havent been able to get the same satisfaction without the meat. Any recommendations for a vegan BBQ?

  • Tesco do some kebab skewers which are great on a BBQ. Other than meat substitutes, corn on the cob is great obviously. I also tend to shove some sweet potatoes in the coals, they go really well with miso butter.

  • Moving mountains are my top for burgers and hot dogs.

  • I love marinated (firm as possible!!) tofu, boiled then marinated mushrooms on skewers with onions and peppers. courgettes, fennel, sweetcorn (ofc), echo the potatoes n sweet pots wrapped in foil in the embers. Love a grilled pineapple too.

Whole bulbs of garlic. Maybe also foiled up and chucked in embers.

Also saw contestants grilling half a romaine on masterchef, wanted to try that on the next BBq

Lots of good meat subs too to experiment with.

  • Certain veg are fantastic charred or grilled - spring onions, broccoli, asparagus, lettuce, large mushrooms, courgette etc are favourites here, season and add some decent oil (cold pressed oil seed rape oil, olive oil). Grill needs to be hot and be patient, wait for the char lines and resist the urge to keep checking or moving them around.

Can then be drizzled with a dressing such as tahini loosened with citrus juice/water or a salsa verde

Whole bulbs of garlic smoked in oil until soft and spreadable

BBQ sauces are easily made vegan - ketchup with added soy sauce, molasses, chilli, garlic ginger
