  • I can't keep up

  • Right size now?

  • Lol absolutely maddddddd, frame is forever on my must have list. Selling a cargo bike this week i may turn into one at somepoint

  • Then there are already two of us 🥴

@HoKe yeah exactly, its a Small now; previous one was M plus; new one is also pretty much flawless

@young_gun thanks a lot! well.. let me know what your budget is and maybe we can talk at some point 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hope the wheels will arrive tomorrow 😇

  • Best thread ever.

  • S would never work for me sadly. I have Just accepted ill find one one day but have to fly to france to get it.

  • Lil update:

One month ago I rode my dad’s 2000ish Canyon Ultimate AL, which, despite its age, still sports some very fine details.

Also despite its age, it still runs very smoothly in all aspects, be it drivetrain or brakes.

however, i realised that during all these years my dad had basically not invested any TLC into it, except from fixing a puncture (or maybe two).

hence, my assumption was, that despite the good feeling, the bike must have been in a very sorry state given this maintenance absence over two decades.

so I decided that it would be a great opportunity to give my dad something back without being asked to do so…

I saw big potential in replacing the bulky DA 7800 shifters with the mor elegant DA 7900 shifters with internal shifter cable routing. The price for a used but goid pair of Those fucking shifter went up from 200 to 300 within the last four years so i acquired a mini group instead and sold all the other stuff leaving the shifters at less than 200.

Second big aesthetic potential were new wheels, with mavic ksyrium being the stock ones from back in the days. And with his weight being more than one feather in conjunction with zero maintenance, the brake surfaces were in a pretty poor state, too.

Carbon wheels were not within the budget plus I saw some decent matte black vision alloy rims two weeks ago. Of course, the black brake surfaces will tear down subsequently but what can you do

Then, an awesome coincidence occurred when I fetched another bike near my parents place on the weekend (more in that later 🙄). A bike I would have never been able to buy, had I not planned this particular trip to my parents! This bike sported the exact wheels in like-new-condition so I did not hesitate giving them to my dad.

I also was slightly suspicious about the bottom bracket, so i brought a spare da 7800 i had spare. Turned out this was a great idea because after closer inspection of the bb after removing the crankset, it turned out that it was just imploded or so. It felt and sounded like there were edgy stones in the bearing cups

I also ordered all the usual spare parts like cables, brake pads etc.

  • Are the photos not working for you guys, too?

  • Loads of photos aren't loading for me this evening! Excited to see what you've rustled up when they're back up though.

  • Looks v good with the new wheel
In desperate need of bdhu though!

  • Thanks and yes, I know

    No time left unfortunately :-)

  • Got some nice wheels with the 496:

Corima Aero Track from early 2000ish id say

Surprisingly they look totally shit on the frameset despite being æro and having white decals.

Refurbished them with new tubs, truing, a hub service and some carbon polish

    Passed them on today

  • Awesome wheels, shame they didn't look good on the frame.
And it's always good to see when a bike is brought back to life with some decent maintenance, nice work on the Canyon!

  • Didn't even take a picture with them on?

    😱

  • Believe me, the proportions just dont make any sense, despite both frame set and wheels themselves are amazing ofc

  • Many thanks Jan

Attached are my favourite 20th-anniversary-without-service pics

  • Other stuff that happened:

Last weekend I picked up this CAAD 8 OPTIMO SAECO in size 56.

It is from 2005 and therefore the last Saeco colorway. The color is called Race Red and the silver sections are actually clear coat over brushed alloy. Looks even better irl.

In contrast to the CAAD 7 Optimo (the bordeaux one) this CAAD 8 has even more aero-ish seat stays which you can see in the last photo.

I think its pretty underrated because in that same year, the Pro Team rode Six 13 Carbon/Alloy frames. There, the clear coat sections are of course black with the carbon tubes visible.

  • Ha, real nice. Throw it on the pile. Looks NOS.

I got the six13 you’re talking about. Looks like the same frame other than the carbon tubes. Has the same seatstays, fork and those cable guides on the headtube. Also same decals on the rear triangle.

It clears 28s comfortably by the way…

EDIT: got that wrong. Mine is 2006 - Lampre. Still looks the same tho.

  • Throw it on the pile

    😹😹😹

Its it good condition but has some paint chips here and there. Probably I am just good at hiding them ;-)

I think you are right and lampre/saeco six13s are identical geo-wise. Absolutely love the lampre and would not mind coming across one in 56 🙄

Still regret having skipped that lampre track bike / or 3 years ago from that italian dude

Anyone knows where it is now?

  • Man I just love those bars

  • Hehehehehehe ;-)

I dont think I am going back to 10s

Oh snap… still have to build the viper red saeco with 10s record 🥴🥴

  • Couple recent shots from my SL6 in 🇮🇹

Best value for money bike so far.

Might swap S-Works saddle and cockpit later this year

Might go for R8000 Di2, too, but not sure
