This tasty tipple managed to force about a quarter of a bottle of itself down my neck last night, so quite enjoyable to say the least, and as you say quite unlike any Scottish whisky. House of Malt describe it: "Penderyn Legend is a cracking Welsh single malt whisky matured in bourbon barrels at the beginning of its life, and then finished in ex-Madeira casks which imparts some extra layers of sweetness and soft spice."
They make solid stuff, have their own style, I think not trying to emulate any of the classic scotches works in their favour.
I was at a stag do in North Wales a few years ago and went to the Abber Falls distillery that had just opened. They hadn't any whisky ready by then but we tasted the new make which was really nice, you can get it now I'd be eager to know how it turned out.
