Can't remember what type of sealant it is - some generic brand I bought in bulk. I've always got away with being incredibly casual about tubeless, it usually just works...
Will have another go at it and will just swap out for some others if it's not reliable enough. I have a couple of back up options.
Though all 47c,which is hard to get used to after riding 2.1s for ages. Wouldn't have thought those few mm would cause so much pedal strike. -

I think panaracer sealant is designed around thinner sidewalls?

just pop a tube in it

My chum who works in a bike shop says this
whenever I mention my tubeless woes. We're both agreed it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

You’ve never had a puncture?

Anyone who has spadged out 75 quid for a tyre plus valve plus a roll of tape plus latex plus a air compressor and wet wipes and a bottle of matey is not going to tell you they are sh##

Can't believe I've ruined this thread by turning it into a tubeless discussion.
Tempted to start googling kayaks. -

You could probably pull it back from the brink by starting a list?

In the bike shop today someone came in for a puncture kit for their inflatable ! Fortunately they advised get a proper one not a park sticker. And paddle out !!

Was thinking of finding a bargain helmet and asking if anyone had strong opinions on helmet wearing.
-
• #5887
You should do a thread where you make your own aero helmet

I got a planet X one recently and didn't look back - good air flow, looks fine to all but the vaguely initiated 🤣

last (I promise) boring tyre update. I tried a few more times, concluded life's too short to spend any more time on it + I'm not spending valuable touring time witha tyre I don't trust. I'd bought a set of the more knobbly bargain Halo tyres ribble were doing as well, so am going to put one of those on the front and switch the good tyre to the rear. Which might make for the ultimate on/offroad combo. But probably won't. But as long as they stay inflated it'll be fine.
WIll try and warranty that leaking one as well, though at £9 it's hard to work up the energy. -

I normally pump stubborn leaky tyres to the max listed pressure to find the leaks and leave tilted so sealant pools in the leaky parts, just something else to try while you wait for a replacement...
-
• #5891
Pretty much done every possible variation of this... you could literally feel the air coming out in multiple places round the seam if pumped up to any sort of pressure and the sealant just wasn't working.
Sending it back is going in the 'to do' list for when I'm back, got too much on at the moment to sink anymore time into it.
(and if I did have the free time I'd rather waste it re-reading the DIY aero helmet thread again, which I'd totally forgotten about. Or the cat touring one. Literally anything other than take tyres on and off again and wiping sealant off stuff). -

stick the link to the helmet thread please

Cat touring was next level.👌
Also why don't you just pop a tube in it?👹

A better use of anyone's time than discussing tubelessnessssss on the internet.(though what I've always thought is, if tubeless had existed first and then inner tubes had come along, everyone on the internet would be arguing about why they suddenly needed to carry special glue and patches + extra tubes and arguing about patch application techniques and whether this was actually any improvement over tubeless and probably eventually concluding it wasn't.)
Also the other halo tyre I put on last night has stayed fully inflated with no extra effort whatsoever, and that really is the last I'll say about it.

It could be the sealant, it shouldn't keep oozing as it should dry out and form a seal.
Leaking sidewalls is an issue with all brands and usually goes away after the first ride.
Same pair of Schwalbe/Continental/Panaracer/Vittoria, one will leak, the other doesn't BUT most importantly, none returned with continuing leaks.

Perhaps getting on topic, because I'm unsure if bargain but Rockshox SID for £390 sounds OK without me fully understanding the differences between SID, SID Ultimate, SL, etc.

If anyone is looking for Spyres, you can get the SLC version for £65 here, cheaper than normal ones. Looks like they've set them up as a colour option rather than a separate model, then discounted them...

+1 for this
but conversely I never have a problem with Stans. Peatys brand sealant is by far the worst I've used. I binned the bottle I had.
