Leedell and EeeKayah fair enough, she does speak German and Swedish.

But she also pronounces the signs of the zodiac in correct Latin pronouncation.

It depends how familiar the word and pronounciation is to us over here. For example croissant, most people pronounce it kinda-frenchy like cwasson and it's noticeable if someone goes full English crassont. It gets more complex when you go to pain au chocolat, I was raised saying it the French way but a lot of people go for the middle ground of chocolate cwasson. Beyond those very familiar foreign words you come across as a prick pronouncing in it's own countries accent. See Rob Hatch, he probably has an internal debate whenever he has to say the name Barcelona whether to go Catalan or other Spanish. My argument for anglicising most common foreign words is there does it stop, should we say Paree rather than Paris?

This is my preferred position. Trying not to judge people for how they say things. What sounds correct to one person may sound wrong or affected to another. I tend to find my life better when I am less critical or judgemental of others. I strive to be tolerant of others but do struggle with tolerating others intolerance.

Tells you a lot about me, but I’d happily give up [particularly foreign] holidays to avoid this.

Beats me why people pronounce Raleigh as Ray-lee. I’ve even seen for sale ads with the text reading ‘Rayleigh bike’ and a photo with perfectly legible decals. You might retort by suggesting they are dyslexic but are they really going to write ‘Leigh’ instead of ‘lee’.

The surname Raleigh is actually pronounced Rawleigh but I think the company was named after Raleigh Road?

I think the problem with this is our pronunciation of Latin comes from Church Latin and they aren’t big on the zodiac.

I think the power dynamic makes a difference in terms of pronunciation of non-english words. I think it matters less if you're referring to western Europe, but not making an effort in colonised places where the indigenous languages have been historically marginalised is pretty bad form.

Obviously it doesn't really matter, accents are a fucking thing and people say things differently, getting wound up that someone tried to pronounce something like a local might is daft though.
