Does anyone know anything about gardening?

  • Nice bench - one hell of a view

  • Does anyone want a big-pot sized clump of bamboo? I've just pulled three out of my front hedge - I've put one in a pot for the patio, but the other two are destined for the brown bin. They're cut a couple of feet short, so you'd even get one on a decent-sized front rack... Collect from Catford in the next week or two (or however long it takes for our brown bin to arrive).

On another note, does anyone have any holly cuttings I could have? If not I may pop to the park under cover of darkness for totally unrelated reasons.

  • Lovely. Chuck a stretcher (orientated vertically) between the two long 2x4s to help with wracking.

  • So close....

  • Looking good, but grey!

@stevo_com, you're right, but it'll have to wait, I've run out of timber, the the table is pretty damned solid anyway. Ps: I haven't forgotten you!

Decided to dig over what was previously a rabbit run, with bonus free bunny manure, with the idea of planting sweetcorn. Bad move. The previous tenant had put in chicken wire 8" down to stop the little buggers
digging out. What fun I've had digging it out. And who names sweetcorn varieties? Couldn't resist 'Bodacious' or 'Incredible', so am planting both.

  • Ps: I haven't forgotten you!

It's only just starting to dry out about now anyway.

  • Stumpery seems to be doing well

  • holly cuttings

I have many holly seedlings you can have? Squirrels bury the neighbours holly berries all over the place so there's a constant supply.

  • Ok this might be AQA but trying here first. A couple of weeks ago a cat (I think) shat in the flowerbed by the front door. It has decided that's the spot now. Just got home and it absolutely reeks. Grim. Not easy to remove the offending turds as there's ground cover there (small purple bellflower) and the wet shit kind of falls through / smushes. How to persuade cat not to shit there? Orange peel? I haven't seen it in the act so don't know which it is, there are several around us.

  • Chucking a bit of Silent Roar around has worked for me in the past.

Our cats have an annoying habit of adopting vacant planters etc as a toilet but have never gone onto ground cover. Though a mate once netted his veg due to this issue and the offending cat simply shat from the top of the fence onto the netting. Pretty funny really

  • We used to put down used coffee grounds, which worked on next door's cat. But there's a new one up the road that doesn't care and shits everywhere anyway. Chilli powder is rumoured to work for a bit?

  • Ooh, lovely - whereabouts are you?

  • It does, but it's tricky to hold the cat still while you shove chilli powder up their rectum.

  • Tricky, but not impossible...

  • Does anyone have a suggestion for a detergent for black limestone?

Searching keeps bringing up options that I worry are too harsh. Basically I just want a PH neutral / non-acidic soap to wash off the muck.

    Cheers.

  • Ecover linseed oil floor soap.

  • The wildflower meadow I got the council to do on our road is in full swing

  • Thanks!

Do you think there would be any issue using it before Sealing?

(obvs I'd let it dry thoroughly first)

  • I once read that lion shit works to deter cats from using your garden as a litter tray. But A. You have to source the lion shit, and B. You have to have lion shit in your garden instead, which I can't imagine smells of roses.

  • Get lion. Lion eats cat. Lion shits on neighbour's lawn. Lion eats neighbours.

    Problem solved.

  • which I can't imagine smells of roses

Surely that depends what you feed the lion?

  • My wife’s uncle just finished our garden bank retaining wall. That’s much less of an eyesore now.

    Before & after shots

  • Well, might see if I can acquire some lion shit from the garden centre, in the meantime will try the coffee grounds tip and sprinkle some orange peel about. Coffee and citrus will at least smell better.
