Similar, don't want the explosion to occur during Ride 100 (only because I just want the ride to be done and ticked off so I can move on to other things. Having to do it another year would just be annoying as it is at a really annoying time of year for me.)
Went for dhb Troika as I wanted:
Shimano XC100 MTB shoes were going to be the alternative.
I had Spesh Pro MTB shoes (with carbon soles) for Audaxing that also lasted many many years and were ridiculously comfy. The super stiff soles meant I never suffered from hotfoot, even on 4+ day rides. The eventual smell though. Ugh.
