  • I'm currently watching this, there's now sex wee all over my couch. Would love a proper bender, mine is heavy, creaky and not great sounding. Watch this space. 🙃

Have also developed a huge crush on Kenny Vaughn, Marty Stuart's guitar player, he's so fucking cool. Saw him play with Kim Richie and Lucinda Williams back in the 90s, always loved his geeky style and tasty licks but only recently have I looked a little deeper into his story.

  • Any reccomendations for guitar shops in London that have a good bass range? I'm going to go to the Yamaha Music store to try out the BB range but would like to check out some other stuff as well so hoping for a wider range option. Will head along Denmark Street but from memory there's never a lot in terms of basses and what they have will likely be out of my intended price range. Just a case of going to Guitar Guitar and hoping they're stocked up?

  • Any experience selling on Reverb here? Or am I better off selling to a shop?
Moving on a 2015 Gibson LP special DC and a late 70's Japanese hollowbody.

  • Denmark street is pretty much just Wunjos for bass now - they do sometimes have a decent range down in the basement but sometimes when they're between deliveries it can be a bit sparse.

The Bass Gallery in Camden will have the most basses in stock but it's a pretty polarising store in terms of whether people think it's great or they're complete cowboys.

  • Sold a Korg stage piano and a 20 year old Warwick $$ on there, as well as some sundries. Found it to be preferable to eBay. Wasn’t inundated with stupid offers, got the asking price. With one I arranged collection in person, the other they arranged a courier.

Shop is simpler, but price you get may take a hit. If Reverb, take good photos and be honest is the description.

  • Ah yeah the Gallery popped up in previous searches and had forgotten about them so will give it a look.

Had been looking at the Denmark Street online shops and think Wunjo was the only one to have a bass section on their site and even then it was empty.

  • Oh yeah, their website is terrible though - can only assume they keep it as such for comedy effect, the actual store will have way more stuff in.

  • Had a trip into town today and ended up at Yamaha Music and Guitar Guitar.

Liked the Yamaha BBs and the Fender Jaguar the most in terms of something that I might end up going with. Can still get a really solid P-Bass sound out of them but then also have some good versatility and was getting some really nice sounds when involving the J pickup.

I really liked the Fender Aerodyne Special P-Bass as well but feel there'd be no point in getting that just to sit alongside my Fender Precision as there isn't enough of a difference.

Tried out a Stingray as well as I've never played one and I wasn't actually a fan of it. Maybe with more time I'd get on board but won't end up going down that route.

  • Does anyone have any experience with Allen Eden guitar bodies? Obvs cheap and Chinese but what do you say?

Joe Glaser is onboard to make me a B-bender (shame about his branding, not the best), I am now researching bodies and necks frantically. I want paulownia (~1kg!), gold and a nitro finish, the closest I can get is Paulownia, purple sparkle and poly. 🫤 I'm sure it'll be fine.

  • Very kind of you. 🙃 Interesting that particular paulownia body has hardwood inserts around the bridge, recommended for high stress areas apparently. Hmm, maybe I should stick with alder/ash/basswood then? BTW That finished purple body is only US$109. Quite a difference in price.

I'm being cheap, I should stop being cheap.

  • I have a sneaky feeling Glaser may have developed strong opinions about installing his mech on bodies with softer woods... I would shoot him an email and ask.

  • BTW, do you really need a superlight body? A Glaser will be loads lighter than a Parsons Green. It almost won't add any weight at all.

  • He said paulownia wouldn't be a problem, he was most worried about working with a non-Fender body which may turn out to be all over the shop dimensionally.

TBH I shouldn't be cheaping out on what will be a really amazing instrument. Who buys a hundred dollar body and then spends another six hundred getting it modded?? Back to MarketPlace!!

  • Possibly. But my Deluxe is a boat anchor! I'd like a really nice light Tele.

  • Is pine an option anywhere? Always fancied a pine Fender.

  • You should offer to re-do his branding in return for a bender.

  • We thought about building a guitar in paulownia recently. Apparently (I've never used it caveat) it's really soft - like drop something on it and it'll dent soft.

If you're really after a a gold one and you're in the UK, there's alway Rich the paint wizard in Wales. Last I checked a telecaster was c. £150 for nitro, shout if you're interested in contact details.

  • Pine bodies are out there as well! There's fuck all choice here in Oz and what is here seems to be Chinese in origin and expensive, it's the downside to living in paradise.

  • Wouldn't that be awesome?? 🙃

  • Aah - didn't notice Australia! Postage to Wales might make that particular repaint option prohibitive!

  • Squier Classic Vibe 50s Telecaster is pine and shouldn't be too expensive as a donor?
