Looks like I ended up at 4.47mm between the slats but I remember now what it was, it was if the spoke being picked up was too far from the side then the slats were flexing allowing the nipple to push down between them. I added a bit of reinforcement at the bottom to hold the slats in place. You can hopefully see it in this photo…

Any recommendations on bearing pullers/drifts. I have the Unior slide hammer but I'd like a threaded rod & cup thingie for smaller bearings and frame/linkage stuff.

I like the Wheels Manufacturing kit I have for BBs. bearingprotools.com are good for smaller bearings and UK based.

Ah yeah perfect. I'd seen the red drift type but not those.
Also looking at this RRP one that looks tidy.

RRP shit is good. We bought a whole bunch of stuff for the workshop and it was very impressive. The BB puller is especially satisfying to use. No primitive hammering.

Wasn't really sure where to post it, much more on the functional side of the scale.

Been tinkering about a semi mobile tool storage solution. The modularity, organisation and quick access for the most used tools (that's removable) is quite neat.
Another nice little kit is this one:
Systainer lifestyle is $$$ though.

Probably still mega bucks or hard to obtain but it's been mentioned that this is the company with the patent for those, https://www.tanos.de/industry/case-systems?
^ that isn't just all the kit - the geezers even got a brolly -

That’s a nice looking set up. I’m guessing it’s gonna be ££££ with the Festool boxes.

Those boxes are around £80 each. Unless they've shot up in price since I bought them. I got into this system nearly 20 years ago and they're fine but a bit bulky for some situations (working on staircases etc.). Really useful if you are on site for a decent length of time or in a workshop. I guess it can work if you rack a van and have them all the time but I don't leave any tools in the van.
In short a tool bag is still more versatile for small jobs and day to day use.

Prices comparable to Milwaukee Packout, which is very popular with tradespeople in Canada.

I was making them for the guy at SBC (at that time I didn't have a nipple holder/driver thing, for deeper rims I was just using a bit of spoke threaded into the top of each nipple to insert them) and he reported that the first one I made him the nipples would push down between the slats when he tried to pick them up with his holder. I think I then made one that was a touch too tight and had the be shaken for ages to get the nipples sorted and then we eventually got a good spacing.
I'd have to look at the file to see what it ended up at.
