How do I know if what I pay (~€250/€300) at checkout covers import etc taxes for when the item lands in the UK?
What wording do I need to be looking for, if the merchant has even gone to the bother of explaining steps they take for non-EU residents?
My current options are:
Use VPN to change location to where they’re based, buy and ship to family and then have them ship it to me for ~€15. That’d come to ~€300 + €15.
Keep location as UK and have them ship it to the UK. That comes to ~€268 shipped.
So 2. looks like the better option, but if VAT will be added it would bring it to ~€320. Any other customs charges?
The price difference is greater on other products so it’s not always as little as €5 to be saved. We receive a lot of parcels from family in the EU - not yet being asked to pay additional fees so I’m happy to assume we wouldn’t be this time either.
yes - duty will be added unfortunately. which will vary based on what the goods are. the courier may also add an additional 'handling charge' for this (typically £10-20)
Buying from the EU, online.
