Gran Sasso is a shit climb. People wax lyrical about it because of who has won there previously, but it's too long, not steep enough and too exposed to ever stimulate exciting racing.

It was the sort of day where you couldn't win the race but you could win it.

Looked pretty and not steep. Right up my street.

Dozed off twice during it. Not a remotely exciting stage at all. Fair play to the 3 that stayed away.

Also not the most exciting race ever but last two laps were good. Pidcock rode a blinder, just so chilled at the start.

Today has the potential to be one of those Giro stages that shapes the GC far more than anyone anticipated.

Agree, yesterday was a beautiful snoozefest. But I was pleased for Bais and Vacek - not sure I've ever seen anyone so happy to be second! - and if the stage had been spicier that wouldn't have happened.

Does anyone know what happened to Tom Skujins? Finished 92nd and dropped 30 places in GC so all the contenders have moved up one. Crash?

Interesting. Why do you think that?

It's a Tirreno-type stage*. Short, steep climbs close to the finish that can see riders lose time unexpectedly. The weather can be a major factor here too.

*one of the climbs today was in Stage 4 of this year's Tirreno.

It's not just Andy, they said on the GCN commentary yesterday that a lot of the DS's consider this a 'dangerous' stage.
