  • I would definitely go for Steel for an MTB over carbon just for durability reasons

    The advantage of steel is not that it's inherently stronger or tougher, it's that it's usually easier to read the damage from the outside

  • Just to preface what I'm about to say I have one of those Niner forks, and I've never snapped a carbon fork blade. I have however snapped three carbon fork steerer tubes. I always think that Niner video isn't really dealing with the real issue for carbon fork durability, which is idiots like me who can't find their torque wrench

  • Yeah, the video is a gimmick, you're never going to put much load into the most highly stressed part of the fork if you're holding it in your hand. Their point though is sound; if you build a carbon fibre structure well, you'll exceed the strength of a steel analogue well before you reach the same weight as the steel version.
