Did you hold down on the file, rather than just press it?

Yep.

Screenshot the problem screen? Maybe someone here that uses it knows the trick?
Have you saved the file onto the phone itself or is it trying to grab it from Google Drive?

Trying to grab it from Google Drive, but that should not be a problem. If it is, the app is shit.
Screenshot would just be like looking at my Google Drive GPX file folder. The files themselves were kind of dimmed out rather than being clear, so maybe that's the issue, i.e. it doesn't recognise them as GPX files (which they are).
Again, OsmAnd doesn't have this issue.

Did you miss a permission thing where the app asks to read files from Drive?
Are they shareable files? Or public? Can the same files be read by OSM? If so have a look at both app's permissions? I've only ever loaded gpx files off my phone directly into OSMAnd, I didn't even know it could read from Drive. -

The only permission it asked for is location, which I allowed 'when using app'. Files are shareable/public/can be read by OSM/can be accessed from Google Drive with OSM.
I've already had the refund/the app deleted from my phone, so can't check permissions. But this should be straightforward 'works immediately' stuff, not 'faff around under the hood until it works' stuff.

The roadbike setting in https://brouter.m11n.de/ does indeed avoid gravel tracks so that is to be commended

Has the OSM cycle map option just completely disappeared from RWGPS? This is a potentially a big problem for me.
edit: (It's back now 6-7 hours later, no idea if it's a problem with them or me. I restarted chrome which didn't help. I'm sure it's happened before. Maybe a licensing thing?)

So fair play to the BikeComputer developer. He wrote back saying:
to import GPX tours do the following :
Copy the GPX files into the App folder (which one you can see in Settings -> Data-> on top).
Go to Routes. Open the left list of imported GPX. Click "Import GPX file".
Select the desired file from the list. The file will be imported and the route will be displayedOr you can send yourself the GPX as a mail attachment, click on the attachment in the email app. Select "BikeComputer Pro" as the destination. The app should open and display the tour. Occasionally it is necessary to repeat the process, to make it work. Then click on "Import GPX file" in the app.
It's a bit of a faff, tbh. You should just be able to import them from anywhere, though I'm not sure how much reprogramming that would take (surely not much?). I might try it again, because it looked really good apart from that.
It says you can do it, but when you try, you can't actually select the file. Spent five minutes tapping my phone on the GPX before thinking: "This just doesn't work." Dunno whether that's a Google Drive issue or a Google Pixel 6a issue or 'pilot error', but OsmAnd lets me do it, so I'm inclined to think it's the app.
It's annoying, because apart from that, it looks really good. But being able to import GPX files is fundamental, so...
