  • Another angle - the roof will be 100mm higher once the rafters and purlins go on. Feels okay size wise to sit in but it will feel smaller once the sheeting goes on. Biggest next challenge is how to sheet and clad the side against the fence. I might see if my neighbour minds if I take out the panel so I can access it rather than build it and slide it in. Not sure if I’ll do any today - have payed work to do and rain is forecast.

  • Very tidy looking build!

  • Great to see this coming along. Top work. Well done.

    rewatched bushradical

Really enjoyed this. Especially the proportionate level of DIY tools and engineering.

    So much of youtube is:

It was really nice to see how he twisted the bracket for the chimney, rather than someone with some mental tool saying; "oh course if you don't have a ___ you can always do this using a hammer", but not showing you how you'd do that.

  • Yep agree - I also like red poppy ranch - you have to overlook the burning their trash in a barrel and putting bleach in their drinking water tank -but he’s done a cabin too. And a house and a workshop which is bigger than the house. What he’s built is crazy in scale for one man. A lot of pickup truck fixing which is tiresome tho.

  • Sheeting is hard / lunch / vibes - half a glass of red wouldn’t go a miss.

  • Got a bit out of hand yesterday - pushed through despite rain. Three sides sheathed - door sill made. Bye bye landy 😔

  • I'd like something like that :), does it need any sort of planning permission?

  • Well done for persevering.
Before you fit the sill don’t forget to cut in a drip groove, or the rain water will travel back into the cabin.

  • Oh flip. Great shout - will do

  • Hope not. 🙏🤣 it’s sub 2.5m to the highest point so complies with permitted development. That’s the max when within 2m of the boundary. I’m slightly alarmed by how big it looks - height wise. I have specifically put it in the most south east corner of the garden . The deck is north east so gets the sun lunchtime through to the last rays before it drops behind the Nextdoor block of flats. The roof is sloped to work with the rising east sun in the morning after it appears over the tops of the houses on the opposite side and also to direct rain into the garden. The roof eaves will overhang on the south facing side with the window to provide shading and limit heat gain. I’ll build an external shutter if necessary. The large door on the north side will be a frame with polycarbonate in to give general north light and help to make the space feel bigger. That’s the theory anyway

  • oh - i missed this - one of my inspo projects has battens at 450 which is what the onduline info says - but now I look closely you can see a bow on the underside. I may go 400.

  • Thinking ahead to cladding - we love the garden at overbeck's nr. salcombe, the succulent house especially and distinctive green-blue paint . I expect its by little greene or f&b. need to dig out a colour chart.

  • I feel you could offer these as either plans or full service.

  • The large door on the north side will be a frame with polycarbonate

No idea how practical this is, but I always see old pvc double glazed doors around - even more so since the grey window trend - and wonder how easy it would be to cut them up and reuse the glass for shed doors/windows etc.

  • Also it was really interesting to read all the bits of design logic.

You should do this for a living.

  • In that build, the bookshelves out of the uprights is a very neat use of the structure. I like the way they've set the lights too.

  • We (work) are working on a project with these guys at the moment, I went for a meeting here and was blown away by this space.

Love what your doing here btw, much better than a crap shed plonked in the corner

  • what like a middle ground between off the shelf shed and 10k garden room.....3k shepshed

  • Me too and - pretty easy if you can get your hands on them.
It just so happened my neighbour ripped out his 90's alu units last year so I asked for the glass. I have a big (approx. 90 x 70cm and two small pieces (70 x 30cm) in the garage if anyone wants em. But with the door I want it fully glazed and not too heavy - so poly it will be (i also like the reeded glass / privacy vibe)

  • Cheers pal

  • Price range, 250 for plans to 10k for instal.

  • 250 for plans

Wut. He's not going to get out of bed for that.

  • He is if he's already drawn them...? or am I missing Chris' point?

  • Yeah this is what I meant. But also starting at 250, obvs more for more work.
Like the folks who sell cad drawings.

  • Ha -if I’m ARB - Do I need private pi insurance to sell shed plans. There’s a rabbit hole of liability to explore.
