Assuming they're doing this so the quicker riders might be tempted to bounce Kings entirely and sleep at the next control with the air beds, assuming they're still running that one?
Relieving some of the logjam at Kings would definitely be a good thing.

It makes sense from that point of view, maybe even just getting a first lot of people through kings before the later wave comes. I recall people having to wait an hour or more for a bed to come free in the past so I can see how this could help.
I was just trying to understand how getting to the start for 4am works.
