  • Feels a bit like KFC selling a vegan burger, there are so few products that mention using any recycled material. Is this the start or a one off marketing piece?

  • I think there's loads of factors here; are you assuming everything goes to market?

  • Probably. In the last 2 years which is about how long factories will hold excess fabric before insisting it is destroyed.
But also as said, if the excess is undyed, it can be made any colour.

  • Thanks, that was a poor search around the site on my part. After seeing an aeroplane with 'Born to be sustainable' written down the side yesterday, I was being a little harsh on Rapha there.

    Imptact report.. https://media.rapha.cc/image/upload/v1670864679/graphics/Impact-report.pdf

  • No but that’s the only real tangible measure as a consumer, no?

It’s strikes me as all very uniformal, perhaps best expressed as let’s make this from that as opposed to what can we make from this…?

  • Don’t get me wrong, perfect shouldnt stand in the way of better.

  • I appreciate the considered response to my scepticism.
    Thank you.

This approach to refinishing is great.
It offers lots of benefits for the painting process for sure.

The very idea of daring to use paper edges instead of vinyl is diabolical.
You wouldn't dream of doing that for a custom one-off.

Painting over the original factory finish of course is another thing you can't presume a customer would always be happy with for a number of technial reasons I'm sure you're aware of.

It's the kind of finish that you can only get away with for a pro team!

Looks as though many bases were covered and this was a very well considered project.

I was brought here to this thread because I was contacted today by a regular customer asking if it was possible to emulate this finish on the most recent Aethos frameset.
I suspect it won't be the last request of its kind.

It's not possible to be as environmentally conscious in a one-off scenario because anyone tasked with creating a facsimile of this finish will have to actively copy some of the elements from the Cannondale... some new product might have to be purchased. Then in order for it to last well as an investment, it'll have to be primed and cleared properly... all told though, it will still manifest in up cycling for sure and I hope anyone who copies it is as considerate as the team behind it clearly have been.
To that end, I'm grateful that this particular Cannondale project has potentially made rub-throughs, and using leftover tins of paint a trend for this season.
Means I can make time savings that I couldn't otherwise, and I can potentially shift some more obscure leftover colour products that I might never find a customer for!

I suppose no matter how well-intentioned the environmental goals are within the confines of this project at the team level - and I can see that they have been thoroughly thought out - we can't shy away from the fact that it's taking the format of a slick, well-shot, well-produced, well-marketed product launch. This has a larger-scale benefit of course for Rapha and Cannondale in that they'll move more units. More clothes. More bikes. It will drive traffic to their shops/websites and help them sell greater volumes of product which perhaps by comparison aren't so well considered in terms of environmental impact. That's a little icky but I guess that's the nature of the game.

  • Not nice but certainly pricey!

  • The cap is 90 quid!

  • I actually when on thinking I might get the cap until I saw the price!

  • Lol wtf! What kind of people would actually buy this.

  • It would look cool at office but then again it's got DWR and is 100% nylon so not exactly office kind of shirt.

  • Would look lovely in Adam Blythe's Eurosport collection.

  • I also actually like it.

  • I don't get the snowpeak hype, it's camping cosplay for millenial tech workers

It's nice, but very punchy pricey

  • Would look lovely in Adam Blythe's Eurosport collection.

    Lol, yes

  • I would say you get the hype exactly!

All this stuff is normal fashion, not cycling fashion. There is far weirder stuff on Zara and ASOS etc than this stuff, and can be as pricey.

It's just fashion. And as we all know aging men do SO WELL with fashion

  • AND its Japanese?

  • What do you mean ageing?

  • Quick question on Jersey fit.. I'm a medium in classic style. For pro team training Jersey is it worth sizing up?

  • Training and Classic fit the same for me, pretty much. It doesn't feel like race fit, if that's what you're asking.
