  • About 5yrs - so I don't think so

I'm often a sucker for new stuff but isn't the selling point of steel repairability?!

  • I've been told it's TIG welded and therefore a long and somewhat complicated process? I also assumed it might be easily repairable, although I don't know if I'd put it up to main off-road duties after a fix, unless the entire tube was replaced. But I'm no frame builder...

  • I’d just get it tig welded, it’s not a big job any fabrication, engineering place should be able to sort it out. Shouldn’t cost too much and what’s the worst that’ll happen? It’ll crack again…

  • TIG weld on steel is not a complicated process, even I could do a decent weld there. Get it repaired, won't cost much and should last if the welder knows what's he's doing

  • Tigging that cracked chainstay, or brazing over it, will likely be a temporary fix as the inside of the tube will be bogging and you can’t get in to clean it. Replacement of the chainstay is the way to go. Depends on the dropout design but generally it’s an easy job.

It looks like the dimple is larger than is required too so replacing with a less dimpled stay would mean it was stronger and less likely to go again in the future.

Give it a go, some manufacturer will happily warrant stuff when it's clear it's a failure rather than wear and tear.

Espeially if you're the original owner with a POP.

  • Although what you say is true, if it was mine I’d just break out the grinder and the mig, weld it up and put a rib along the top and when it breaks again next to the weld look at getting it done properly ;)

  • Yeah it’ll last a while, I blobbed some brass on a very similar crack in someone’s (possibly they are on here) Sequoia so they could finish their tour of Scotland and it was still solid when they sent it to me for further mods/repair a while later.

New chainstay will make it good as, or better than, new though.

  • This is the way
Mate and I did this to his Genesis as practice when we got a stick welder. He's a big one, and really hucks bikes. Still going strong about 8 months later

  • Mehteh

If you want one I'll do you a bit of a discount if you can pay up front, they're due in with brother at the end of the month.

  • I could be tempted to part with my rapture frame + Fork + headset depending on how much you wanna spend?

  • I was hoping you might have some ideas, thanks for the insight. Many options to consider. Maybe I'll message All-City first and see what the response is. It's a shame because that paintjob IMO hasn't been matched since with newer models.

  • I have a spare ticket for North London Dirt on saturday as my work colleague had to pull out. Anyone want it?

  • Well it looked like gravel to me.

  • Couple of tanks (and ominous sky) but no gravel in Pembrokeshire today

  • Hella(s) good gravel in Crete.

Could have done with a lower gear than 36x30 and my wife wanted bigger tyres than #700×33 as it was steep and chunky in places but overall, rates high!

  • Nice. Everyone knows bigger is better. :-*

  • I suppose anywhere near London is going to be a total fucking swap after the entire day of rain?

  • Sandy areas around Hindhead are your best bet

  • Can you endo on a MS?

  • Endo? I almost cleared the doubles!! (caught 3mm of air at least!)

  • Nutmeg Spring Fling, thrown by Ultraromance. There was some gravel, not pictured. Mostly just hipsters carrying bikes with 50mm tyres over slightly inconvenient rocks and sticks.

  • I would argue that all bibs are cargo bibs, given this evidence ;)
